how does the 250 compare to the 300? I'm prob going Beta 250 for next season. need to pull that trigger soon.

I would be down for Franklin but riding Hodges with Biggles earlier than 5 Thurs. heads up for anyone else interested.

no, i haven't yet. scored a new USWE water pack and a water proof pouch for my phone, been using that instead. still want to add something handy but we usually don't stop too long except back at the truck for food. boring shots there.

i took video yesterday but havent gone though yet. our last run out it was pouring rain, i couldn't see shit and ate it on a rocky uphill.

here's what it looks like rolling down a hill

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.

I am thrilled to announce that I went dirty riding yesterday and it was a blast. It's really important to note that this was the first time that I've been riding since a shattered my patella in round #7 last racing season. It felt great to be back on a bike and I was doing pretty good with sliding the rear. I totally face planted when I got my front wheel trapped in a rut coming through a turn but my gear kept me nice and safe. Now I just want to get back on the track!! Yay!!

I posted the only photo I had on FB, I was actually celebrating after I went flying past the bars, got up and dusted myself off. It had been so long since I last rode and I was definitely suffering apprehension BUT that damn YZ-125 is just so much fun that all that evaporated away after the first lap. A friend of mine owns a gravel pit and we all went riding, it poured pretty hard just as we got out but cleared up pretty quickly, definitely added to the muddy experience!

I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to compete this year but I plan on getting a few track days under belt. Getting out yesterday was a huge milestone, my knee is a bit sore but all in all I'm feeling pretty good about m progress. Miss my track family!

loving the pics! worked all weekend, and stoked to go on Thursday!!

@ clinton - those are awesome!!! lol @ rolling camera...and most of my "pics" are actually just gopro stills...the framerate is high enough that the stills come out pretty clear.

@ chipper - dig the style pic!

trying to get one myself, but I'm not heavy enough on the right hand...

@ DZircher - was the YZ125 the right choice of dirtbike???

Survey filled out. And I love the YZ125, it's got crazy torque and it's a joy to ride. I wish it was 1 inch shorter though.

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.

you can lower it out of the box...just spin the threaded collar nut thing on the rear shock with a spanner wrench

*technically* this is used to set the sag - which is essentially where the bike "sits" while you're seated on it...but (although I might get flamed for this) for a recreational rider, you can use it to adjust the seat height

or just bring it to any NESR dirty rider, or to peter kates, and they can set it up for you

but yeah, I found the yz was a good compromise for a starter 2t bike...just keep riding it and the fun increases as you get used to it

Unfortunately as your machine is an 03, it's already got about as low of a seat as Yamaha shipped out of the crate. That's not to say you can't shave a bit more out though? The lowering link kits out there muck with the leverage ratio pretty heavily requiring shock rework to function properly so... if going that route why not just have the suspension shop lower the front and rear as part of a revalve?

Is say: just get used to it. Dirtbikes are tall. Lucky for you, it's a 125, and therefore, about as light as it gets. Pick your spots to stop, and scoot your butt over.

It's not really bad but I just have a rough time starting it because I feel like I'm on my tippy toes.
Josh, a rookie question for you, I'm assuming that I need to deploy the opposite bar technique to street riding. Rather than using thumb and fore finger on the bars with a light grip - I'm pushing and pulling on the f'n bars with a lot of energy to make sure the front wheel stays on the line I want to carve. or am I just doing it wrong?

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.

Look further ahead, that'll be a little less of an issue, vs looking at the front tire to make sure it's where you want it. (Which is probably why you fell in the berm...that, and not being on the gas(which takes a LOT of mental effort to start doing))

Re: Let's get dirty...check here for rides.

Also Dana, if it's just starting that's an issue, you'll see lots of these at scrambles (dead engine starts)
    http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...tarting-Blocks
Or if $50 is too steep, screw together a couple pieces of 2x4, and maybe drill it for a little piece of rope/lanyard. Stand your non kicking foot on that.

yeah, I'm not a fan of this approach. suspension should be tuned to suit, just like a carb. anything else is holding you back. recreational or not.

great pics!! rippin' that berm, sweet shot...

thnx for comparison, all makes sense, especially since the 250 has a higher comp head and aggressive ign. I almost went that route with the WR (well, went half way) but the lazy head and analog ign are just better (for me) in the technical stuff.

more cc's in the same style motor will be fun.

Hah, I dunno as I count as being someone who can offer much technique advice for dirt. I ride with a death grip depending on what's going on.

Chip, nice corner pic bro! The reason my 250 doesn't rev out is because of the gnarly pipe. They really choke off the top end. I'll probably switch back to the stock pipe to smooth things out. May also change from the red spring back to yellow to tame it a bit.

The 150 is a great motor, and it's really exceeded my expectations. I just need to stop short-shifting it.
