    to be more specific:

    April 5 at 9:26am · TRAILS CLOSED
Due to high water and thawing ground, the trails at Hodges Village Dam are closed to Dirt Bikes, Horses and Mountain Bikes. Ground conditions are very poor.
    Thanks for your cooperation.

I just moved here, don't know any of the spots in NH, I'll look into them.

Yeah, PM me if you don't mind. I'd prefer to find an area where I can actually get through the gears, but I'm open to anything at this point. Haven't ridden since November, and I used to ride at least once a week all year.

You can race woods/mx with PSTR on Sunday in wareham mass.
Since the joint is sandy and it's been thawed here for a few weeks it should be good (and not a mess like last time).

I'm in Watertown. Where's that at? Looks fun. Trying to keep it legal since last time I rode a dirt bike in this state it got impounded.

Looking into NH riding and registration. Looks like there's decent stuff open, but their registrations seem to all expire at the end of June, which would mean like ~$80 to ride for a few months. Am I reading that wrong?

Well that's pretty stupid...I guess I'll wait for Hodges to re-open. And while I'm doing that, look for jobs back in CA

trails are in central MA near 495/route 9 intersection, they are not legal, just behind a shopping center and tolerated

@ nick5446 - I made the opposite move - used to live in MA, now in Long Beach

You've got no shortage of good riding. I was in Santa Cruz so I hit Hollister pretty much every weekend, but would also go to Clear Creek, Stonyford/Mendo, Carnegie, etc. Make the trip down to Baja if you haven't already.

Most STATE trails in NH are currently closed and will remain so until after mud season, usually the weekend of Memorial Day. Private trails in NH are up to the landowner...

EDIT: don't necessarily go by what's posted on the state website. Those are only updated if the clubs maintaining those particular sections of state trails keeps the site admin updated. Check the club sites/links directly for up-to-date info. Some of the areas that show to be open now on the state site show that they're indeed closed until the Friday leading into Memorial Day...

    EVERYTHING IS MUDDY.
Do the right thing and stay off them, or head towards the cape (definitely not Freetown, which is still closed anyways) where the sand actually drains.
(There's nothing legal down there, except for the 2 area mx tracks)

Thanks. Yeah I guess I'll go for a street ride. Rider Planet shows some of the NH trails open, but not too many. Don't have a ton of faith in that being up to date, combined with the expensive and short registration, I'll sit it out.

I realize that this is probably a "piece of string" question but, for someone who's never ridden a dirt bike, what is the learning curve like to ride woods and MX?

According for facebook I got my first dirtbike 3 years ago today. I did my first race the October after that. So, with a few months of riding offroad experience. I've done a bunch of offroad races since then, including getting some trophies. Try it, you will like it.

Thanks bud. Any suggestions on where/how to ride? None of my friends have dirt bikes and I've actually really struggled to find dirt bike schools where you don't have to bring your own bike..

You will fall down a few times.
    You might get hurt.
You will probably experience whiskey throttle at least once and it will scare the fuck out of you, but you still won't be able to let go.

Hodges (Oxford, MA) is a great, legal, spot to practice. there is a long gravel railroad bed, sand pit and mellow trails right near the main parking area. very beginner friendly. also plenty of more advanced stuff as you gain experience.

the trails won't be open for a while until things dry out, it's a flood control project, but otherwise it's open year round.

schools, no bike needed, they will supply:

The MSF DirtBike School - DBS - Dirt Bike Training, Riding Lessons

Planet Dirt - Learn to ride a dirt bike in southeastern Massachusetts- one day MSF dirt bike course for kids, adults and families
