    elevation changes and jetting

at what point have you guys changed jetting for elevation changes?

I run my dr200 in long beach - starts the moment I hit the starter button

up in gorman, CA (3,000-6,000 feet), it initially started and ran okay for the first couple hours, but after the bike warmed up and got run harder, it wouldn't idle anymore, and had a tough time starting...then it would stall after riding it 2-3 mins (independent of throttle position), but if I let it sit it would start a few mins later. I guessed it was a sticking float, but when I took off the bowl, the float was working fine

I thought I fouled a plug or clogged the pilot jet, but I brought the bike home, parked it a week, and just turned it over for kicks and it started right up

now, I've never changed a jet in MA going from the worcester area to riding with fasteddie or james, or even when the temperature changed...so I felt like it was a myth, haha

but that have been my problem?

I got a couple larger pilots to try it out

Don't have much to add other than you need to go leaner for higher alt's, not richer. And yes, 3-6k feet can make a difference.

This, rode up a 5k mountain once, my bike is fuel injected the other carbs and literally the other rider had to throttle and feather the clutch to keep it running.

now I'm completely mixed up - started the bike just now...fired right up, and let it idle for 2-3 mins, then went down the street - no problem. 5 mins into the ride, anything under 1/8th throttle and the bike was ready to stall...no more idle when warm

it was worse when I was up there, but I wonder if I clogged the pilot jet (that would explain a stall < 1/8th throttle). But if that's the case, why would it start and idle when cold?

but yes - I had that backwards, higher altitudes = smaller PJ's
