    Expanding my horizons

    Expanding my horizons-2014-05-31_mynewhonda-jpg

So I have a few track bikes already, but I finally have something I can ride on the street again, and also play in the dirt, something new to me!

Yeah, he went from a 250 to half that, a 125. Now this new bike is a proberbly a 62.5cc

    Re: Expanding my horizons

as Roland progressed from bike to bike at track days, he went from a 250 to a 125...which he marked as an "upgrade"...so his suggested trend is to continue to an even smaller displacement bike....duh!!

@ OP - nice bike man! I watched all the youtube videos and reviews on that thing...it has that smooth, torquey feel that put Honda XR's on the map...enjoy!

See, you guys all assumed a linear bike buying trend, going down. In reality, it was 250,125,125,250 so more like a smiley face. Oh, and my face is smiling!

    Re: Expanding my horizons

So day 2 on the new toy, and I managed to get my first tip-over less than 24 hours after buying the bike. I then proceeded to tip it over about another half a dozen times!

Started off by finding a route to Bubba's place that involved some class VI roads. Found some and also realized I don't know how to ride dirt. Well one way to learn is to press on and learn by experience!

Manged to survive that solo adventure in the woods, and made it to Bubba's. From there he took the lead and took us on a nice mixture of paved and unpaved back roads. Some exploring did happen resulting in some dead ends...

    Expanding my horizons-2014-06-01_deadend-jpg

Oh, and one of my tip overs might have been caught on tape. I was all proud of myself for having successfully traversed a puddle and thinking the worse was over, then I get caught in a rut and fall over... All of my tip overs ended in me laughing at myself at how much of a noob I am!

    Fun day!

Actually, to get even nerdier, if we take into account the number of strokes and assume 125 2T is roughly equivalent to 250 4T (not considering race tuned verse street tuned) then I'm pretty consistent!

    Re: Expanding my horizons

Around 10:30 this morning I hear the faint whisper of a late model, small displacement 4-stroke motorcycle in my yard. I walk out front to find this nutball in a brand new machine COATED in mud.

    Yeeep, you own it now.

Couple snappies while I cook dinner here.

Here I am negotiating a mud hole. But what's this in the top left of the frame? Queue CSI style visual enhancement techniques.

Sasquatch making his getaway? No, too small, too Canadien. Is that 'Arai' stamped on its head?!

    Expanding my horizons-vlcsnap-2014-06-01-18h21m43s99

Yup. It's a geek with a motorcycle on its side.

The footage of you face planting really isn't that interesting. I was too busy looking down trying not to do the same myself.

I should add that he was still rocking the 20-day temp plate... which vanished by the end of the ride.

I'm so jealous. At some point, when budget allows, I'll pick up another street legal dirt bike. I do miss that riding. It definitely translates to better performance on pavement too.

Hey Mike, it's partly your fault that I got this. When I took your 250 out at the TTD, I realized that: a) dirt bikes can be fun, and b) I can deal with non-GP shift!
