no way...still on your temp plate riding embedded rocks and ruts in puddles? I would've hated it if I was that new to dirt...heck I'm still a noob, but have ridden a couple years now...and STILL hate that kind of riding...

    good job Rolker!

I recognize those power lines in the first pic. We will have to do some class VI stuff sometime.

Roland. You have to hit the interwebz and do some goodie ordering. I believe you need, at minimum, a decent skid plate and a pair of barkbuster style handguards. I'm kind of surprised you haven't mangled a lever yet.

Not trails. All class VI roads and I believe completely legit legal riding. A couple I know are legitimate and I've done nearly destroyed the v-strom on previously. A couple others I was sure we were off the reservation. Then we popped out on a state highway in front of a class VI sign.

Ran into some horseback riders that seemed a little annoyed we were there at first, but turned friendly and cooperative when we killed the engines and kept 'em that way 'til they passed.

I just set it down. You know, there was no solid place to use the kickstand. Yeah, that's it. ... Well, maybe except for the time I stalled it and launched the gps into the woods.

Always pull over, kill the engines, and take your helmet off for horses, if you have time.
It goes a long way towards
A: keeping the rider of the animal from getting tossed off.
B: debunking the stereotypes out there about dirtybike riders.
    Please and thank you.

Yep. We bailed on the last segment of dirt in that area when we doubled back to find the same riders out there. I'd rather do a few more mins of state highway than try to pass horses on a road like that. Roland agreed.

Yup, you should recognize those power lines! We should indeed go riding someday, as long as we keep it to simple stuff I can handle!

Yes it is. And he's right; it will make that swissarmy knife even more versatile.

And just 'cause it's a tard, doesn't mean it needs to be tracked.

If you need help with the rationale: having 2 sets of wheels will let you go for some badass knobbies for dirty use and not burn them up.. uhm.. commuting. Yeah, commuting.

Nice try, but I have no desire to make this perform better on pavement. I have 3 track bikes for that. This one I want to keep simple so I can just jump on it an ride. No messing around with swapping wheels, I do enough of that when the weather is iffy at Loudon!

Of course, I will make a seasonal exception and strongly consider obtaining a set of ice wheels...

    big +1.

we rode Hodges a few weekends ago, there was a horse trail ride event going on at the same time... on the same trails. here's a quote from the horse club

Heard from the Hunter Pace Horse Clubs that the dirt bike riders at HVD are some of the most respectful riders they have ever encountered. One of the organizers commented how great it was that so many user groups get along and share the land at HVD! Nice to hear our sport getting some positive feedback, nice work.
    awesome to hear.

we stopped, shut our motors down and said hello at every encounter. glad everyone else did as well.

    Re: Expanding my horizons

How are you supposed to handle passing horses that are going in the same direction? Once I came upon a few horses on an access road. I pulled way over, and idled by making sure the horses looked composed. Everything went fine until one of the horseback riders followed us to the car and berated me/us for like 20 minutes. We finally had to just drive off with her still spitting insults.

But you can't always STOP and sit there.
