Finally... got a new bike!

Basically same post as I made in the "Liven it up with 2 stroke" thread but I wanted a place where I could track changes and progress to this bike over the course of its life. A visual evolution if you will...

Okay so picked this bad bitch up Friday after waiting almost 2.5 months to get it as the Bro Deal is the Slow Deal.... that's all good though. Got a killer price on a 2013 KTM 250SX! The meanest, baddest, coolest production 250 2st mx'er made! I decided on the KTM over the YZ250 after doing lots of reading up on both bikes and while the YZ250 is a great machine it basically came down to the fact it hasn't been updated much since 2006... and I want this bike to last me 4-5 years minimum. KTM has been continuing to update the 250SX even making solid changes from the 2012 to 2013 model. It has incredible Brembo brakes, hydraulic clutch, machined triples, 5-6 HP more than the YZ, etc. Main weak point is the forks aren't as good out of the box, but hey I'll get those worked on anyway.

Got to take it for it's maiden voyage Sunday at Pala and once I knocked some of the rust off I got going okay on it. Still doesn't feel like 'my' bike yet but I'm learning it and expect after a few more rides, and dialing it in... we'll be getting along just fine..

It's interesting to hear your logic for going with the pumpkin over the blue option, it's exactly the logic behind my leaning blue if I were to upgrade. Parts are plentiful as a result of the lack of major changes and Yamaha's parts bin mentality means there are always upgrades available by pilfering suspension/swingarm/etc parts from the blue thumpers. It'll be interesting to hear your opinion on the bike after you've had more time on it to see just how far past the Yamaha the KTM has evolved.

Honestly Josh I'm not that worried about trouble replacing / upgrading parts on either a 2013 YZ250 or KTM250SX where I'd have to go 'parts bin dumpster diving'. What would you really think would require you to have access to the 'extensive back log of parts' on the Yamaha to replace things? Not that many parts from a YZF450/250 would cross over to the YZ250 anyway. If you are looking to buy a older bike then different story.

Heh, that certainly does play into it a touch. Reviving my WReck has kept the maniac wrench in me happy as I determine just how many other Yamahas cross with it. I like the idea of getting something else that works that way.

First 4-5 times I rode a YZ250 this past summer I HATED it. Was so uncomfortable, I couldn't jump jumps that I would own on a 250F, was twitchy with the throttle. Etc. then it started to click. Don't expect to jump on a 250 2st after lots of time on a 4st & love it. YMMV

Just looking at that sexy beast again it almost looks like you could do a top end without removing the gas tank!

Love all the room under there. Makes swapping plugs and carb work a breeze.
