    FINALLY rode some woods

I moved this winter. Not too far, but my place is on a mountain that is largely state forest. There are lots of trails that are a no go, but many skirt the state lands. I finally had some time after work to poke around a bit. Did an hour and a half loop, and just scratched the surface of what's out there. Most are old roads. Some bony, some steep, some powerline. Beautiful ledgy terrian. It was like 105 percent humidity, so every rock, root and log was sweating and slick as whale shit in an ice floe. I touched on an area with some narrower trails, but they were steep. I was alone, so I will have to go back with a buddy to tackle them and really get an understanding of what's out there. I can see on some trail apps that there's a lot more if I use some pavement to link other areas.

Stoked to explore this summer/fall. If I cut a short connector trail from my backyard, I can avoid the prohibited trails and never touch pavement.

Awesome dude. For future trail clearing, get a nice Brazilian machete. Those folks know a thing or two about clearing trails. Anyway, a "nice" one is like $18. I cleared 95% of my trails with it and came back through with the saw for big stuff.

We used a Stihl bike handle trimmer with a Brush Knife . The blade will take down good-sized saplings. Came back with a chain saw to clean up. Final step was a cordless Sawzall with a demo blade to cut any stumps down to ground level.

I also use this walk behind string trimmer. I bought it to do my 600 feet of fence, but it works great for clearing scrub on the trails as well.

Nah, I've neglected it for the last 2 years, just a couple of quick rides on the MTB. I'm going to get back after it though, it's really too nice of a stash to not ride. So really I should state my equipment recommendations in the past tense I suppose.
