    Jump takeoff

So I started jumping a bit more, and it seems lately almost every decent jump I hit, my back end kicks to the side on takeoff. I know its not a track related thing, because I try to hit the jump at various places on the track. Is there some sort of body positioning I could be doing to throw myself off? I generally dont move much, usually just stand up and let er fly.

Slow the rebound out back a click or two. (thanks Paul!)

    Re: Jump takeoff

Could be rebound if it's kicking the rear high. But if it's always kicking sideways, then it could be body position, throttle issues, and not lining up to take off straight. Or a combination of all three. Line up the take off as straight as possible, lean forward into the face, pinch the bike with your knees, and hold steady throttle past the take off point. Roll off in the air mid flight to drop the nose a little. Push down on the bars if you need a little more.

who doesn't love a little rear brake dabbing in flight?

Kicks to the left I think.
I tried to focus on body position, and take off last night, and it was better, but still happened a few times

Pretty sure I dont, and what would rolling off have to do with the back end kicking sideways?

    Re: Jump takeoff

My guess would be the engine starting to brake.
But max that shit out. Whip it left, style it. Just make sure you're going fast enough to clear that thing.

Holy everything batman. You lose all directional and attitude control when you roll off the gas before the rear tire leaves the lip. Especially if it's not perfect.

    Re: Jump takeoff

Acceleration straightens a dirtbike like the feathers straighten the flight of an arrow. Rolling off the gas is like taking the feathers off the arrow. Fucked.

    Re: Jump takeoff

I'm betting cash money on it. It's tempting to roll off when the front leaves the lip. That's too soon.

Negative. Need to get the wifey to get some video, if I can drag her off the track for more than 3 minutes.

    Re: Jump takeoff

Agreed, ratchet throttle on as you climb the jump, do not release until both wheels leave the ground, or in my case as you roll down the backside of the jump. Being on the gas when you land seems to help make the landing softer as well, or so I hear as I don't leave the ground.

    Re: Jump takeoff

Good call on locking the knees into the tank Paul_E_D. I had a rough time with the finish line jump at MX101 being so damn steep and the rear end drifting out. My throttle control has always been right on, but locking the knees in made all the difference. I think this should help me make the full distance on the triple as well. Black Squirrel laid the smack down by jumping the triple again, so now I have to step up.
