Getting dirty in Wolfboro / Alton

Wow! I guess it's been a while since you've been out there. A few years ago, the property owners requested that gates be installed at the heads of the Caverly Mt / Devil's Den trails to keep the trucks out. It's been a struggle to keep up with the assholes that cut the chains and/or try to destroy the gates. Maybe someday these same assholes doing this will own their own property that they hafta fight to keep from being defaced...

Wow, yeah I guess its been 3 or 4 years. Damn time flies. I remember when even seeing cars out there was pretty normal. Are the fire roads still open access? I remember gates leading to the den and caverly mt with warning steep trail signs.

Yeah, a lot of the old access roads are still open. But they even gate those in the winter and during mud season now too...

Wooo - Major shoutout to Doug and Jay - I'm back up and running. Heading up in the Alton direction now - maybe get in a coupla hours today - if not starting at 9am tomorrow morning (bring rain gear)

Looks like my buddy Bob is gonna make it to the rendevous too.

I'll try to snap some pics to entice some other nesrains if I make it to the trails today.

Gotta coupla hours in today - not too shabby - stayed mainly on the fireroads to get myself oriented again. I'll be out there around 9am - looks like I'm gonna get wet.

Bah! Flakes! Its only supposed to be like a 1/4 inch all day. Looks like AM will be me and my buddy Bob (no not battery operated bf) then afternoon Jays gonna show up.

TOday I only got out onto the fire roads and like 1 trail - it is so different than I remember it. I can't find anything anymore lol.

Basically - just get to the Alton Traffic Circle (where 11 meets 28) continue on rte 28 N heading towards Wolfeboro. Once you pass the 28 by-pass on your left you continue up around 3ish 3+ miles and Rines rd will be on your Right. You follow it all the way till it turns to dirt, then follow it past the old brush dump, over the bridge, to the parking area (there is signage).

If you are lacking clearance (ahem Jay) you can park in front of the old sandpit just before the bridge.

I was up in the air about whether to meet you there or do DucDave's streety ride. But those few hours we spent in the cold rain yesterday has me basically motionless today. My back woke me up about 2:30 this morning to remind me how much it hates me...

Anyway, Clough was fun until my early exit. I liked it, more my style than Franklin, other than that one puddle where I didnt quite see the bypass. But good times, cant wait to get back next time.
