You can take mine for a spin, but I may need help mounting tires onto the wheels...

Garage day at your place is starting to turn into garage week! I'll just bring my trailer and camp out.

Ordered a set of Canadians, you know what they say about once you go Canadian...

Now, garage day seems to be an event Josh and Jonathan want to happen where I guess they'll sit around, drink beer and watch me as I rebuild my 125 motors... I'm sure they can fit you in that peanut gallery.

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

I even bring my own beer.
WTF is a candian? I thought "canadians" in this context were screws. What about the black round thinies you screw 'em into? Or did you buy fully made setups from someone? (And who?)

Canadian and AMA are the two types of screws, right? I have no interest in racing for like realz or anything. So I guess I'm gonna go Canadian too. (But no fookin' way am I learning french!)

Ordered the roundy black things with the screws already in them. Also ordered shinny round things to put the black roundy things on for easy swapping between season.

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

Fredette Racing Ice Tires out of Canada are the creme of the crop. They use more aggressive, taller head screws than AMA allows in US racing so they have more grip and can deal with more cruft on the track better, at the expense of not being AMA legal should you wish to chase that series. The tires come with the screws already mounted and tuned (screw head angle matters) with a liner installed. Lots and LOTS of labor done for ya. Only challenge is mounting the SOBs on rims.

And I'm not going to just sit and drink there Roland, I fully expect to have a motor put in front of me to rebuild.

The price wouldn't be so bad if I also didn't need wheels... and can only get wheels from one mfg now...

One way to justify the price: Its cheaper than if LRRS went year round and we had 5 more rounds!

Barely... LOL. And Kurlon, I don't know what your smokin, but I'll have some. 600 for a set of tires is not cheap.

It's not cheap, but the grins are worth it. $600 for tires that magically make your bike stick like glue for moments at a time, on ICE! That's awesome!

The couple of options I found online are:

    Fredette Racing out of Illinois

    and

Marcel Fournier, up in Quebec, somewhere close to the arctic circle

After mounting mine last season I am convinced that this type of tool is the hot ticket for ice tires. It was developed for mounting tires with Mouse inserts which are notoriously difficult.

I mounted mine with a combination of the machine, spoons, teenagers, c clamps and vulgar language.

Watch craigslist or keep your eyes out here. I just scored a set of ice tires for short money. Yeah, that's right. I'll be out on the lake treating it like a pit bike track...

I bet I can slide on my ass much further on the ice. Or more dramatically if there is snow present...
