So I took an intro to welding class at a local trade school last year then bougth a cheapy stick welder from wallmart. and was able to fab this up.
I used the side rails from a rack I had and cut them to fit then welded square stock to make the cross members and spacers near the seat. Saved myself $125 from buying one from suzuki.
I am by no means a master fabricator and my welds could use some work in the looks department but slap a coat of paint on it and you can't really tell.

Looks good SeanAt first i thought maybe you could strap a few gallons of gas to it for the Maine rides.. but I forgot Bobs bike holds 11 gallons so we won't need that.. haha
If you're worried about the looks of your welds and are comfortable with their strenght, some latex chalking and a wet finger can make a nice looking weld![]()

They are definately srong enough, lut kinda bumpy, I suppose I could have used a grinder to smooth them out but its a dirt bike not a custom chopper, besides it will probably be covered by a tail bag or if we go to maine, a 30pack on the way back to camp from a days riding.![]()

If you guys want, I can weld some shit for ya. I got me a MIG welder now in addition to my arc and can make nice purdy welds. Also got all the necessary goodies to make some stuff including sawzall, angle grinder, 1/2" vsr drill, saber saw for sheet metal, cutting and brazin torches, etc.
Looks good sean! I may have to try makin one of them for the Rex!

I bought a cheapy stick welder from wallmart, cambell hausfeld (sp?) its 115V 2 voltage settings, high and low. Granted stick welding is messy and not real pretty, but it served my purpose.
I can't do aluminum with it but if I see the need in the future I might pony up the $$$$$$ for a mig with aluminum set up. Lincoln makes a nice home use one for $4-500 depending on accessories.
