    You suck!!!!

I've been trying to arrange a trip there for years now.

I'm even considering heading down after our October 5,6 trackdays in New Jersey. Figure I'd be halfway there already, so why not?

Hmm... looks like some "trailfest" thing happening there right after our October trackdays. I think I prefer to go in an off time.

Guess we'll wait to hear Mark's full report.

We thought about Columbus day weekend but had heard of the trailfest thing going on. We had heard from the locals that if you want to ride alot, don't come during that time.

    Another amazing day today.
Only advice Tony (or anyone else) if you make the trip and are riding the trails, DON'T look down

Home now, been on the road all night and I'm gonna catch some shut eye. I may start a picture report later this evening as I just downloaded 90 pictures. I will say the pictures don't do it justice as usual.
    Good night

    I googlied, and found this:

    Re: Hatfield McCoy trail system

I just dropped off 4 disposo cameras to get developed to disc that should have some pretty good action shots , I am going to pick them tomorrow before I put up a ride report , I also have 120+ pics on my digital camera to up load .

This place was well worth the trip down , they actually do awesome trail maintenance, the green trails get groomed with a bull dozer , in fact I met it head on going up a hill , luckily I was able to stop long enough for him to pull to the side and still get going on the hill again .

the area down there is poor , and even that is an understatement , the riding is awesome but don't expect too much in the way of other activities if you go , get a place with a full kitchen as eating out is few , far between , and not top quality .

these pics we have don't even come close to showing off the quality of the riding and the steepness of the trails and the drop offs,
you are always on a ridge line and are either climbing up or decending down into the valley , we usually get around 55+ mpg around here I think we were averaging 40 mpg there as you are always on the gas.
One of the trails was wide enough for pickups but was still fairly steep, we were climbing it for over 2 miles twisting our way up , then right back down the otherside .

Yes it is quad friendly infact there is limited single track , but the quad trails are certainly challenging enough . we had this misconseption that we were going to rip through 100 miles a day , we were beat after 50+ miles each day

they have the trails marked easiest to more difficult to most difficult to extreme difficult . don;t be fooled , easiest doesn't mean easy , it just means not as hard as the other stuff, even some of the blue trails are hard , we didn;t do any of the extreme difficult trails other than a couple of the single track ones, at the top of a couple of the extreme difficult trails was this sign

and we decided not to give it a try as some of the most difficult trails were hard enough

We rode 3 of the 6 trail heads Rock house, Bear Wallow, and pinnacle creek . rock house was the most challenging of the 3 we did , with the most elevation and the steepest trails . we went a bit faster on the other 2 , not sure if it was that the trails flowed more , or that we weren;t as afraid of the drop offs and there was only a couple hundred feet to fall rather than several hudred feet at rockhouse .
Our first day at rock house was spent on the green and blue trails just trying to get used to the fact that there were steep drops on the edge of the trails and that they were not wide enough for 2 quads to pass eachother in some spots , and that the trails are not directional so you will meet up with on coming traffic .

Like I said once I get all the pics back . I'll post up a proper report .

    stay tuned

Still waiting on those pics. Seriously, it seems like it is all those 4 wheel machines and no dirt bikes by looking at the website. What gives?

Besides heading up north this year, Hatfield McKoy is an area we plan to take the kids to this summer or next...

Dirt bikes. There are plenty of trails for all skill levels, and a good amount of single track trails at some of the riding areas. There are a good amount of dirt bikes there, but a lot of atv's and utv's. The trails are never congested when we are there, some days we will do 60 miles and only see a couple other people. This will be my 7th year of going there for a week. The first year we brought street bikes and hit the Dragon and some other roads down there, after riding dirt for a week. We don't bother with the street riding anymore, I think the dirt is much more fun.

    Re: Hatfield McCoy trail system

I don't have one. We go in the end of May every year. We have talked about doing a second trip in the fall a couple times, but it never happens. The weather is really nice when we go, and the trails are not busy at all. That's pretty much perfect to me.
