    Hip protection?

What do you guys use? Front end washed out yesterday on an icy patch and my hip took a good shot. The frozen ground didn't give lol

    Re: Hip protection?

I dont have a lot of protection but Ive had good luck with the soft pad that came with my pants combined with the soft padding on my under armor baseball (i think) shorts.

Glad your ok. I upgraded the back protector but my pants still have whatever padding Rev It puts in there. Food for thought.

    Re: Hip protection?

I bought a pair of padded football shorts late this season. My intention is to try to wear them under my gear on 'spirited' rides and track days.

Other than that, I only use the padding built into my gear.

Sorry to hear about the tip over. Hope the healing goes by fast.

There is a thread in "dirty bastards" started by Oreo discussing hip protection. Might be usefull.

The only time I tested my Rev'it pants, hip was a secondary point of impact. Bruised, but still using the pants.

Icon makes a nice set of shorts that have good padding that ive been using for the last 2yrs. I've falled with them a few times & never has a hip issue. They are under $50 too

    Sheppo,

Glad to hear you're okay, save for the hip shot. Can't tell whether this is a question specific to "dirty bastard" gear, but if not, my response to your question, as well as several other responses, are in this thread:

Man, sorry to hear. That's why I don't ride when it is near 40's. I wear a cheap A* Comp Pro padded shorts under my leather on the track, but for the street and if you don't mind them being a bit thicker, I would look at rated shorts like the ForceField Pro Action.

    Re: Hip protection?

It's more dirt related. It isn't serious but it hurts. I had the stock padding in my pants, but curious if anyone wore anything more. I also now understand the need for elbow/fore arm pads too. Had a good day despite the oops with ynot at clough we were the only ones there! Mid 40's perfect !

Business idea? Armored (not just padded) shorts to go under mx pants?

Otherwise the best ones I vaguely remember from oreocremeinyourmouth"s thread, was padded bicycle shorts...serious padding too, like 1/2"

    Re: Hip protection?

It depends. For the street commuting purposes I just use whatever comes in my pants. In the winter, mostly Rev'it Sand. I do have Bohn armor pants and would wear them if I try off road or for spirited weekend rides.

    Hope the hip heals quickly!

    Re: Hip protection?

I have a pair of these and they fit under my (larger) jeans (I actually an older model but the same thing) These are more expensive than when I bought them but they have way more flexablility but if you google motorcycle hip protection shorts there are about 3 or 4 different brands out there.

    Re: Hip protection?

I have heard really good things about the forcefield stuff as well. The football shorts are my cheap-ass attempt at doing similar for less $$.

In a related, yet off topic note, googling "motorcycle armor" brings up this site: http://www.motorcycle-armor.com/

    Re: Hip protection?

I happened to be in the Nike Store on Newbury St after a (different) MTB crash where I broke my bum bum.
They had a pair of these that for some reason I didn't buy. Looked good though:

Would these be adequate? I suspect the hip protection is no better than the standard hip protection on most motorcycle specific pants. The KNOX/Forcefield/Bohn systems seem much more protective

Dunno... I didn't buy them. They likely fall into the "better than nothing" category.

    Re: Hip protection?

Red protection crash pads meant for snowboarding but work well in other applications. They make a version with abs armor on top of the foam which is what I have. Awesome.

It can be hard to find a version with the ABS, this one should have it underneath the boardshort like exterior.

I guess it's the kind of the thing you don't consider until you actually hurt. I don't ride dirt and my personal opinion is I don't need anything extra for the track. Could be wrong hopefully ill never have to find out.

I wear a* free ride shorts under my dirty gear and track suit. They literally saved my ass during a high speed get off when I wore through my leathers and into the plastic in the shorts. I don't notice them while riding either.

Took 3 days, the bruises finally popped out. I was getting out the shower and my wife said "WTF did you do to yourself now...?" guess I couldn't hide it anymore LOL

I bought these yesterday, I'll report back when I get to use them. They look solid.
