    Hodges - Open?

Can any of you tell me if Hodges is open for riding yet this year? I am looking to do some suspension tuning...

    Re: Hodges - Open?

JC and I were riding there late last fall, maybe around Halloween? We inadvertently strayed from the marked trails, and not by much. As we rode uphill on a double-track dirt road abutting the quarry, a hunter stopped us. He started out by yelling at me, with his rifle aimed directly at me as he yelled. He ended up being ok, but I had to ask him to please not aim his gun at me. It was pretty fucking scary, and I now have less faith in the competence of some of these hunters that are out there. I understand that we may have scared his critters away, but it was an honest mistake on our part. I'm pretty sure it's common sense not to aim your rifle at people.

    Re: Hodges - Open?

damn, that sucks, and yeah, scary! it's been pretty impressive to see the 'multi-use' thing actually working well there (hike, bike, horse, moto) but the hunting part i dont get. who the hell wants to hunt land where motorized, off-road vehicles are allowed to ride?

it can be freaky to hear gun pops when you stop for a water break. we were joking last fall about this becoming my hunting season kit.

    Re: Hodges - Open?

Hunters all the time up at Hop-Ev and they don't seem to mind that the bikes/ATVs etc. are there.

The animals sure don't seem to mind. Last summer rolling down one of the single track trails and came up on a pack of four deer trotting down the trail. When I approached they bolted into the woods. One of the two tracks came over a hill and Mom and baby deer in the trail and again they bolted into the woods. Couple years back chilling getting a drink, turn and look into the woods and roughly 50 feet away there is a fox checking us out.

Was a little weird seeing the hunters the first few times but they seem to know where the trails are and as far as I know there haven't been any close calls. If I had a hunter pointing a gun or other weapon at me though I am sure I would feel differently.

Plus I am usually riding with yknot and he has full KTM orange gear pretty much head to toe so I figure I might be safe by association.

Rada and I spotted a coyote in hop-ev that didn't seem to give a single fuck that we were there. Just kept trotting along parallel to the trail.

I agree about the hunters. Were I hunting I wouldn't go anywhere near that area. But then maybe they're getting squeezed for land just as hard as we are.

+1 . brings back a good memory ... i was in a Honda Odyssey (250cc 2T dune buggy, not the minivan) jamming down a wooded trail chasing a buddy on his bike, we bust out onto a green during a game ... no reverse in the Odyssey, had to grip it 'n rip it outta there chocolate-filled-donut-style we were dying

    Re: Hodges - Open?

Anyone know the exact registartion needed for HVD?
I see online that MA registration sticker is needed. Looking for my friend from Ri to meet me there. I already have my MA plate registration and HOV sticker.

if he needs the HOV sticker think I can register for him in Boston with title, bill of sale etc...

All bikes riding at Hodges need MA OHV registration, "boat stickers".
