yup, HVD is open year round to dirt bikes unless there is storm damage or any conditions that could threaten the trails. you can call or watch the U.S. ACE HVD FB page for trail updates.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
This post was made mostly in jest. HVD is pretty good and you're lucky to have it near home given the state of things in MA. I don't really think there is much for beginners though. Not just there, but at any legal MA areas. It's all pretty sacked out, making even the flatter trails technical for a newb.

the technical stuff (within reason) is a blast to me, the usuals i ride with would say the same, it's all about the challenge and adventure. def not a good time for everyone though :D new england can be frustrating if you don't enjoy rough terrain to extend your ride time but it will certainly make you a better off-road rider.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
Each time Sylwia & I go, she mentally maps out a little more trails that she likes. She's got her little warm-up area at the Northernmost tip which has a little mix of pretty easy rocks, roots & mud puddles with a few intertwining and interconnecting trails. Last time she started exploring a little further south towards the center of the trail system down by Stumpy Pond.

But this map is pretty inaccurate & incomplete... and yeah, some of the stuff marked as "Motorized, Easy" isn't entirely beginner friendly the full length.
I'd love to be able to get out there with some sort of a GPS tracking app that can help us more fully & accurately map the place out... maybe even save it to google maps for us to share, but I don't really have the know-how to do that.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
if my season isn't done (becoming all about snowboarding over here), i'd be more than happy to put a beginner friendly loop together with you guys. it is def possible ... if we can't swing it this season, next for sure ... as we've chatted about, it takes a while to learn how to connect the sections together depending on what sorta ride you're up for.

It's on trail forks. can't vouch for the accuracy since I've never been, but at least the MTB stuff on there is usually pretty accurate.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
Shit, a good bit of it is on AllTrails, too... I keep forgetting I have that when I go riding, but I did get one ride.
Here, this should work... https://www.alltrails.com/explore/re...6f58--313?p=-1
I gotta break that app out more often when I'm there.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
cool, i'm on AllTrails as well. i'll see if i can create a mellow loop for you guys and share.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
That'd be awesome. Thanks, dude.
Sylwia and I just got back from Texas Tornado Boot Camp & she made awesome progress. I'm still hoping to get back before the weather gets too cold but unfortunately we leave for Poland a week from today so our woods season might be over with.
If so... Bring on the ice!!!

I believe I used AllTrails to map Butler's trails, and then laid that over Google maps of his property.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA
i posted the project(s) last Friday in General Bike, but my thread title sucks :spit: i had that joke from the Breakfast Club in my head, "A naked blonde walks into a bar with a poodle under one arm and a two-foot salami under the other. She lays the poodle on the table. Bartender says, 'I suppose you won't be needing a drink'. Naked lady says..."
