    Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA

Pretty sure Syl and I are going to go explore Hodges one day this weekend, weather permitting (possible showers Saturday... hopefully that clears up).

    Who's in?

    Info:
    https://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/.../ride_d908.htm
    https://www.nae.usace.army.mil/Missi...s-Village-Dam/

    Map:
    https://www.nae.usace.army.mil/Porta...ProjectMap.pdf

    Directions:
    https://www.google.com/maps/dir//Hod...2d42.14993!3e0

    MA OHV stickers required.

I do believe there's parking there but don't know how ample it is. We're just gonna gear up at home, open the garage door & ride over since it's only 12 miles away... If you're plated & want to ride over with us, you can park at our place.

I'm working saturday, but will be out there sunday morning. There's a small parking lot and plenty of parking along the road

I've dabbled a bit here & there over the years... Started (LOL) on a KX250, then a 400EXC (which I still have, but in rough shape), most recently a CRF250x, and Sylwia just picked up an XT250.

Good to know. We got through all the red (green?) tape last week so we'll make sure to have the paperwork with us.

Leaning towards Saturday. Don't mind if we get a little wet, but keeping an eye on the forecast.

I've never been but I've heard Carl's Oxford diner is quite legendary if your looking for food in that area. They serve a breakfast big enough your cholesterol goes up when you pull in the parking lot.

Gonna be HAHT as BALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS this weekend... We'll see how Syl and I end up feeling about whether or not we want to brave the conditions... If we go, it'll surely be a short day. Maybe we'll get our butts out of bed early & go in the morning if it'll be cooler.

Either way, it'll be a "game time decision".

Oh yeah, I remember the KX not exactly the best learning tool

Dirty is definitely more physical and will make you warm; camel back with ice water, stay moving, cycle gear cooling base layers/cooling vest if ya want. Going up in elevation/mountain riding, going early (or late - night rides are scary and awesome at the same time!), doing short MX laps, or just a short trail ride in general makes it possible.

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA

yeah, 'tis the season fer heat but Sat AM is looking decent other than some humidity. we usually try to aim for ~10am - 2pm blocks, the place isn't huge so quick hits are easy, i'll head down for an hour sometimes.

speaking of sun, the formal lot by the yellow gate gets FULL sun so we like to park on the left side of the road toward the gate to get some shade. as long as the quarry isn't running, it's totally fine to park there.

How do you like the front brake disc guard? Thought about getting Acerbis but questioned if the plastic they use is effective in deflecting hazards.

Super hot out there today. At one point I fell and it took a bit to get my heart rate down. I cut it a bit short.

i used to run aluminum guards up front but third bike that plastic guard has been on, doing great. i’ve had to replace the spacer/mount once but still going strong. i try to keep the front wheel out of shit so mostly just rock jabs.

    Damn; be safe Paul!

I never thought to look at heart rate after a fall - you’re saying the hotter it is, the longer that takes to drop?

Could be worse…the crazy mf’s in one of my groups did a hard enduro in 100+…bikes and bodies were pretty beat up…it’s just not fun for me anymore at that point. Already did a ride with dehydration/exhaustion/painful cramping and every stop I was just tossing the bike on the ground because I was too tired to put down the kickstand. Well hydrated, shorter flowy rides may be the best balance of getting a fix but not torturing oneself lol.

Has anyone tried the cycle gear cooling vests or cooling base layers?

Re: Hodges Village Dam, Oxford, MA

what a fun place! Wish it were a little closer as the ride over was windy & loud, but I really shouldn't complain about a good riding spot that I can ride straight over to.

Bunch of other people there, but it never felt crowded, thankfully.

And yeah, it was HAHT! Went through my entire 2.5L water bladder in about 2 hours.

Gotta thank Anthony (even though he's not even on here) for showing us around a bit & Paul for giving Syl a few tips. Thanks guys.

It was a fun time. A little sandy, a lot rooty, and some rocks for good measure. Kind of a lot of crisscrossing reroutes etc, but nice that there is at least a place to ride legally out that way. I'll be back to finish exploring. We didn't go up to the summit of the ridge.

any of you record a GPS track? curious how you pieced it together if Anthony is a local ... you should def come back, our reg loop is a lot of fun and links the lower > upper together in one big ~17mi loop.
