    Husaberg FE 390?

So I'm looking at new bikes, thinking of going with a 2012 Yamaha WR450.
I've also been looking at a few 2010 Husaberg 390 FE's. I've read a lot of good things about them, as well as a couple horror stories.

    Know anyone who's owned one?

I know Kevin Hines has one, but the dude is a straight ninja so I don't know how much that helps. The couple times I've seen him out on it, I haven't been able to catch him to banter at all. Post up on nedb.

how 'bout a Husky? they've got solid 310's and 449's cheaper than a 'Berg.

yeah I like the Huskys, but the Husabergs I've been looking at are used and already set up. I'm pretty temped to skip getting a new bike and just buy something that already has suspension work and a rekluse clutch.

    Re: Husaberg FE 390?

IDK. I talked with a guy today who has one for sale. He pretty much told me he's selling because the bike has been such a pain in the ass. It appears the fuel pumps are shit on some of these bikes, and are causing some big problems. I guess the '12 KTMs are having some similar problems. There are aftermarket fuel pumps available that are supposed to help (and only cost $130 opposed to $500) but I'm not sure that it's "the fix".
I really want electric start and FI on my next bike, but the idea of being stranded in the middle of WV makes me think of sticking with a carbed bike.
Gonna try to talk to some more people who have owned these bikes.

there've been fuel pump issues for a while with alot of the fi ktms. namely the 950/990's. the 2 dudes i know with em both have switched to the aftermarket ones with now further problems.

The 2012 WR450 sounds like a huge step forward for Yamaha and the enduro scene. And one thing is for sure, you know it will be rock solid reliable. E-start, EFI, and a 450cc design that's proven itself over and over again..that would be my choice

Yeah, shy away from it if that's the case. FI and dirt bikes is a solution to a problem that didn't exist. I'm not really sure why anyone would want it...

Yeah I think it's gonna be a great bike. I'm just having a tough time with the idea of spending 8k on a bike, and then throwing another 3k at it to have it set-up the way I want it.

Really, you could say that about any engine of the past...cars and sportbikes included. When working/running properly, there was no problem. EFI brings better fuel management, much much faster to tune and in general has proven more reliable. I don't know why you wouldn't want it?

With the winter/spring promotions from yamaha, and some dealer discounts, you "should" be able to get $1,500 off MSRP.

    Re: Husaberg FE 390?

EFI requires a computer, a dyno and an operator to tune. A carb requires a 17mm box end wrench, a 6mm socket, my right wrist and my butt. Much cheaper an faster to tune a carb in my experience. I own an FI "dirtbike". FI lacks the "alive" feeling of a well tuned carbed bike. It has electronics getting between you and the motor. It really is a step in the wrong direction for this application. Fuel economy is not really an issue in my dirt world view.

now that sounds pretty good. I was thinking they wouldn't deal much on the price with it being a new model. if I could get the bike for $6700ish I'd be all over it.

    Re: Husaberg FE 390?

you can grab a new Husky for ~$5,300 and up, brand new. less if you're entertaining the idea of a 250.

look around if you're interested in them at all, prices are usually pretty nuts for a brand new machine. if it's got FI, use the extra dough and slap a JD tuner on it. done.

i almost bought my WR from Paul at Tri-County, check their bikes here. there's also Hall's Cycles and Bills Motorcycle Plus. none of these guys are local, but they will bend over backwards to get you on a bike at a fair price. shipping was super reasonable from all of them. i only paid like $375 or so to ship from Hall's (my own carrier). Tri-County was only around $500 or so. EDIT: there's also Central Jersey Cycles down in Jersey. they were real good to me when i was looking.

check in with Wagner as well, i saw a few deals going on when i stopped in for parts. but i gotta say, they didn't make it easy for me to buy a bike from them the few times i tried. they won't compete with pricing you see elsewhere.

if you're nervous, scope CafeHusky.com for info on the bikes. the 310 and 449's seem to be in line with what you've mentioned above.

    2011 TXC 449 - $5,299 from Hall's

    2011 TE 449 - street legal - $6,395 from Tri-County

    2011 TE 310 - street legal - $6,695 from Tri-County (and Wagner i think)

    ( can you tell i love my Husky's? )

    Re: Husaberg FE 390?

There's a dealer in MA (Armonds?)that has an '11 TE449 for $6500, I think I'm going to buy it Tuesday. I like the fact that it's street legal. The plan is to sell my KTM and use that money for FC suspension and a Rekluse. Hopefully do a couple races next year.

    Re: Husaberg FE 390?

saweet! even though it's a DS, it's supposed to do pretty damn well in tight single track too. (for a big bike at least)

you may not even need the Rekluse. from what i've read, the motor is buttery smooth with excellent traction.

    good luck. keep us posted.
