Sadly, 2 days on the ice in front of my place may be all I get this season. Le sigh.

This time of year, we usually do these at least once every other weekend - sometimes a day every weekend. So...no road course, but there's plenty of tearing around to be had...

I drove almost 7 hours round trip yesterday and all I got for it was this photo, my fill of Wendy B mac n' cheese, and a massive, shit-eating grin.

The 450 on cheaters rips. Geebus does it rip!

    Re: Ice Ice baby

Also. I think I've decided that marcel ('cheater') screws may not be for me. I'm not ready to close the book on this yet, but I think I prefer having the bike move a lot more. The ice was bad (really bad) yesterday due to the weather and the 450 had more than enough grunt to make 'er move a ton. I took the (KTM XC-W 2-stroke) 200 (on Kanadians) out as well and it felt anemic in comparison. On par with Woody's TTR125 (also on cheaters). The 200 is still tuned woods. I did not so much as reset the power valve. The 200 was slow as hell but a lot more fun, honestly. I did not biff either bike. And I really liked the can't-fuck-this-up confidence the cheater front gives. But I'm worried that on quality ice the rear would be too planted. I want to have to practice throttle control. I want to learn to have the bike sideways, always trying to safe an ass-first low-side (or high-side!).

I really think that cheaters up front with a kanadian rear may be the wholey grail for rec ice riding. I have an 18" rear for the WR and may do a swaparoonie at some point if I find myself with the time and inclination to tackle re-mounting that fredette.

All that said.. wheeling a bike on ice is pretty darn cool.

Aw yeah, that was a perfect impromptu ice weekend. despite a bit of work to clear the course, the ice was minty! Glad you came out Clinton. That 150 is hard to beat. dollar for dollar the most fun bike in the fleet.

Sunday I swapped Ken's battery into my "big bike". Took a little time to adapt after a day on the 150, but I got there eventually.

You guys sold me. I managed to find a set of wheels for my XR100 locally dirt cheap, I'll have to pick up the ice tires I found for it this week, or build my own if those aren't still available.

Nice! Is you 100 breathed on at all? There are a lot of effective mods to wake that thing up just enough.

It's got a 120 kit, but beyond that...good question. I bet I can ask Keith, it's his old bike.

Hahaa, can't just go willy nilly. I'm sure there's a couple specific carbs that work.

Yeah, I'll look into it. It may already have been upgraded before Keith got it.

If that's the former Branson 100, I'd run it as is. It'll be in that sweet spot of more umph than stock without being fussy or less reliable.

Also...how the F do these fit?

I checked the YZ 19" against the swingarm and barely saw 1/4-1/2" from the swingarm...I am planning on running an 18" WR rim with a 45 tooth sprocket so get some chain slack to slide the wheel back a bit...also I was planning tapcon screws for trail/snow...no ponds
