    Talking Ice riders??

It's getting close so get to your local dealer and get some screw in ice studs I had a lot of fun on the ice last winter and plan on doing the same this winter Seems like a properly registered ORV can enter any lake or pond with a public boat ramp and there's plenty of them out there.

There's great traction on ice even with only a few screws in the tires, last year i even looped mine backwards on the ice I got a bag of 1,000 1/2" gold tech screws from the dealer today, last year all i used was hex head sheet metal screws from home crapo and had ok results, they just wore down quick.

It'd be cool to get some of the offroaders here together for a few ice days this winter

    Ice riders??

I'm not much of a sled person but i have thought about getting a set of sand paddles for the quad, heard they werk great in the snow

Nate, get some studs!! It only takes a short while to set up some type of a road course on the ice and it can be a ton of fun
Your buddy with the KX and Oreo should stud up the dirtbikes as well, just ask hafsquid how much fun the ice was last year..

Ed, you're still gonna need studs for ice riding

    Ice riders??

Yup got my bag at performance cycles in shrewsbury, $ 48 if I remember correctly.

I too used sheet metal screws last year, they worked well for the little riding I did on them but theses ice screws have like double the head on them.

What weight motor oil does everyone run in the winter????

    Ice riders??

Lemme know when and where you guys plan on doing this...
In the meatime, maybe someone could advise me on what mods I might need to do for my KLX300 in order to insure that it runs properly in the cold weather.
I'll pick up a bag of studs, tommorrow.

    Ice riders??

Sean, i've always used 10/40 in my quad in the summer and in the winter.
Last year when it was real cold out, sometimes i had to use a heat gun for 5 minutes or so for it to start. When ever it was below 15-20 out it was a pain to start

lrrs, i'm not realy sure what to do to a KLR to get it ready for cold weather, i don't do anything but that could explain why i have a hard time starting it when it's cold

Rye, depends on the the size of the nob, how new it is. Measure your nob(tee hee) my tires were not brand new so I went with the 7/16 ice screw. but I probably could have gotten away with the 1/2 in.
you have to figure that you have another 1/8 to 1/4 thickness of tire wall to play with.

With some new nobs, 1/2" will be fine. 5/8" would be a little better and less likely to rip out if the lugs are big ennough.
My tires are pretty much shot for off roading so i'm just gonna screw the studs in and if they leak, i'm gonna slime them..

    Ice riders??

Yamaha makes a Yamalube 4CW 5w-30 cold weather oil for the new 4-stroke sleds,I'm thinking of trying it in the ice racer this winter.A couple years ago we went to Lake George to race at their winter carvnival. It got down to 15 below at night, the hack was in the back of a pickup truck and the oil was so thick I couldn't kick the thing fast enough to start it.We ended up setting it on fire with ether, but that's another story for another day.
