I can too, if Friday doesn't work out, no big deal. I can always ride next spring.

I'm rocking Thor Force knee guards, Black Squirrel recommended them IIRC and so far I like them. Bulky but bullet proof protection.

how come? strapping your boot over the guard holds them in place. it's the only way i've ever worn kneeguards.

Seems excessive, redundant. Extra heat. Extra stuff moving around, conjoined in a weird way. It's probably a 'me' problem. I didn't wear knee pads for a little while, accepting the risk because it's the one piece of gear that drives me crazy. I smashed my knees hard 3 times before giving that up. I wear a full knee to ankle Dainese plastic guard when I downhill MTB, and they're great. But I gave away the pair I had before that because otherwise I was going to light them on fire in a trashcan. I wish the Leatt 3DF's were just a little longer, and they'd basically sit on top of the boot's cuff. I'm thinking I might replace them with the 'hybrid' 50-50 model that is soft 3DF on top, but they're slightly longer with a smaller, thin plastic piece below that might sit on the boot.

But even looking at this picture makes me pissed off. Why the shit does there need to be a big piece of plastic padding inserted in the boot behind the existing boot's plastic?

Everyone I know who rides dirt wears knee/shin guards that go into the boot. I have thick calves, so when I bought boots, I brought my knee guards to make sure the boots would fit properly with the pads in place. They did (alpinestars boots) and it seems like most boots are made with enough space up top to accept the guards.

Anyway, they are comfortable when in place, leave no spot of shin unprotected from rocks or branches, and they won't be dislodged during the more violent ragdolling we all eventually take...

    Time?

As it turns out, I think I gave away my nice kneepads when I sold my 125. Might have to order some and just wait for them to show up but it won't be by Sunday.

I'm betting that one of the local motorcycle shops would have some knee pads on the rack they could sell you..........or if you know someone with Amazon Prime they might be able to get them in day or two for you.

I have some cheapo pads that I used before I bought the Leatts. They aren't great, but they work. I think one is cracked. But you may have them. I will never be using them again.

Time is generally a 8-9 AM ish kind of thing. Early birds get to stand on the side of the trail and bullshit a lot, still get out of there before the sun goes down.

What's the good word on gloves and pants?

Figure if I'm making an order to get those knee guards, may as well get everything I thought I had but don't anymore.

Pants? Well, I'm sure you've seen the pic of me 'airing out' the TT-R in my Wranglers... I do wear padded shorts underneath. On the gloves front typical MX gloves are kinda a joke. I have mechanics gloves with more protection. I've got a set of MVD sumo gloves that are a nice mid point between full leather road race gloves and cotton nothing MX gloves, and I use a set of Kobalt work gloves.

That's what I figured on gloves. As far as pants, my old riding pants that are now delegated to skiing duty should do just fine, and are waterproof too.

Oh, and gearing. It is a 50 on the back of the XC. So it's 14/50. Might go to a 13, it's pretty tall as she sits.

Ride it first. You may be happy with 14/50. I'm at 14/49, for comparison. I'm going to go 14/51. Get ready to roll that clutch lev.. oh, right, never mind.

    Pants. Whatever is on clearance.
Gloves. Same. MX gloves are a joke, but seem to do the job.

Pack a pair of latex/rubber gloves to wear underneath to keep the hands dry and warm this time of the year. Also does a nice job pickling the fingertips.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?

I found MX gloves are super poor quality...landing on a pile of rocks @ 40mph and you still end up with a ton of cuts on your palms. 1 good crash and you now have finger gloves

I actually ride with the lightest street glove I have kicking around (which I'm guessing you have a few?)...the leather is just as good at deterring stones as pavement....plus hardened/padded knuckles against trees/quad guys FTW!

pants - just MX pants for flexibility - boots/knee guards/hip guards do all the real protecting on your hard parts. If in your budget, go Klim

The cheap MX gloves are basically thin cotton. But some of the better ones get some leather or fake-leather. I just bought a pair of 100% that I'm really impressed with, and I know someone else who did the same. I had some Fox gloves before that which were good, gel padding on the palms. Never a scratch on my hands. I also have some cheap MX gloves on back-up duty that I think are basically decorative.

MX pants - IMO you want the high vent type. 'Hot weather' models. You can always wear a layer under them when its cold, and they are still fairly warm if you wear knee pads, knee-high socks, and padded shorts under them. Leather or heavy duty padding on the inside of the knee where it grips the bike.

13/50 will have the bike TOP OUT at about 45. Think about that. that's a lot of revs anytime you go 30+.

Roger on the pants/gloves and gearing.

Opened the carb bowl to check the jetting. Gas smells like varnish and there was an abundance of silver pasty funk in the bottom of the carb. It's gunna need to be pulled and cleaned. Easiest way to yank the subframe/air box assembly off?

Rear wheel bearings have a little play, ordering those as well. Missing a couple bolts here and there, will need to order up some oem in certain spots (subframe to frame bolt).

Should be able to yank the carb without removing anything. Just warm up the boots.

    really?! 45 ??

I run a 14/48 at on 19" mx rim could top out at 75-80mph...I'd say 55-65ish with 13/50...or just run it first and see how it feels

Loosen both boots and you should be able to turn the carb sideways enough to access the bottom. Undo the top with a hex driver threaded through the frame from above to access the needle. With it off popping the carb out should be a simple back 'n forth. Although I've never had mine off, to be honest.

I've found this hardware kit to be well worth the $.

Really. Mine tops out at about 55-60 with 14/49. And I feel like an ass pushing it that hard. 13/50 is going to be low. Suitable for Clough duty. But as I say, I'd ride it before making the change.
