woah, 14/40 ? what was the bike used for previously ? going up one on the counter is ~equal to going down 3 out back.

A 40 on the rear? You sure you didn't mean 50? A 40 is sumo territory

Last two digits in the sprocket number was 40, I'll have to count manually.

I don't think that means what you think it means.
No way you're running a 40.

That's enough out of you. I just watched more of your videos with a co-worker after explaining my purchase and it's intented use. Now I'm considering taking a personal day on Friday and heading to Clough.
STOP IT BUBS

Elbow guards. What does the consensus say?
Leatt again?
I think that's the only thing I really need to address at this point.

Suit/vest/jacket/whatever they are called.
I bought the inexpensive "EVS" brand one. Don't. It blows. Like very badly blows.
I bought the "Fox". Reasonable price and works well. But not perfect. Coverage and protection could be better but are good 'nuf. Build quality is sub-par. I recently had to sew in a new zipper.
The Leatt model looks tities. I hear it is very well regarded. I cheaped out and did not buy that model.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
Didn't realize they are a thing now. Lots of protection rolled into one piece. Neat.

i bought a pair of the Leatt elbow guards to try this season, they don't stay in place for shit. my old, basic EVS (think MSR are the same) worked a little better, straps are wider.
(LOVE the Leatt Dual Axis knee guards though)

Keeps the elbow pads in place. It's great. I have the Fox Titan 'jacket', and I'll probably buy another when this one's done. It can be a bit hot on the really hot/humid days. Just don't wear a shirt over it. The soft-pad type like Leatt offers are tempting, but I think they'll be even hotter based on my experience with similar products.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
Yup we always talk knee guards - don't skip it...leatt dual axis FTW
I honestly bought the $60 cycle gear jacket/vest thingies and for us skinny guys (you still skinny?) It has all your required pads, it keeps them in the right places, and doesn't cut circulation off your forearms
Zipper quality gets junky, but I don't aggressively zip, I have just crashed harder than humans were designed to crash and all the gear is intact...so ride on!!

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
Looks like the Fox Titan sport might be the ticket.

I've been tempted to buy a set of the small Dual axis knee guards to try as elbow guards. If they don't work then my wife can wear them. It appears that she is now going to get on a dirty bike too.

That's what I wear. Bill G (you may not know him) crashed wearing one last year and broke a rib. He went right out and bought the Leatt after that and says the protection is far better. But the price delta.. I just.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
$270, yikes. I'll try the Fox for now. Be here Thursday night.
I'll check to make sure I have knee guards tonight. If I do, I'm down to clown Friday if'n you want to help me remember how to ride one of these smokey knobby tires things.

hah! now that is an interesting idea. Leatt should R&D that shit. :D
i like the size, coverage, weight of the 3.0 elbow guards but they slide down the second you take off. wider straps and some tackier 'printed rubber' pattern on the inside would prob help.
can't bring myself to try the sock type guards like MTB guys wear (Leatt makes those too, 3DF). i like the strap version worn over a jersey for quick removal (heat).

Got the day off Friday. Gear will be in Thursday. Let's do this.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
Going to be a panzy and turn into a day/night before decision.
I love that I can do that with my job, just an FYI.

I wear the Leatt 3DF knee pads, and they usually stay in place. But a couple hard landings with sweaty skin and they start to slide down a bit. I really didn't want to go with a hard pad, or especially anything that gets inserted to my boot. Starting to reconsider.
