LOL, If I had a place like yours, I'd have a trials bike in the kit.

If you have bar guards, that will reduce the chances of breakage dramatically. There's rare opportunity for a bendy lever with a guard, but I wouldn't worry about it, especially with the other items he's got on the to-do list. Low priority. If anything, wait for a sale.

I put together something in the back yard early last fall. I pulled down two fat pines for it. The only problem I have is that the lot is pretty flat and there isn't much to it without the trees. I want to practice more trials type tricks. In the meantime I just burned in a loop slaloming through the saplings, into the log piles and romping over an old compost pile. It's awesome.

Which reminds me; probably time to dump the ice wheels and convert the fleet to summer mode.

Levers, perches, nothing is off limits in the woods.
Things will find a way to get broken with even the best protection out there.
As motorcyclists, we should understand this.
    Not crashing helps some.

I didn't say never Just dramatically reduce. End of last year, I managed to bend my clutch lever downward and I still have no idea how it was possible. Shit happens.

somehow I snapped an aluminum lever from a tip over on the driveway

    levers *can* break with guards

I packed a spare lever (and shift lever...axle nut...axle block...washers...and master link) for LAB2V and now I carry it on every ride

I managed to break my clutch perch when I pitched my bike (and myself) down some ledge. The hand guard hit the ground so hard that it rotated out of the way and the clutch master cylinder kissed the ground hard enough that the perch broke and now only 1 of the two bolts is effective in keeping it secured to the bars. Since it's expensive to replace, and there is decent clamping force from the remaining bolt, I use a couple heavy zip ties to keep things lined up properly. No issues with it over the past couple of seasons. The lever didn't break though!

on this topic, wrapping your bars with teflon tape before installing the perches will help them rotate out of the way during the inevitable. the perch bolts don't need to be crazy tight either.

I think it was ASV that used to offer a replacement perch clamshell half that had teflon on the inside for just that purpose.

That said, replacement clutch perch and lever sets can be CHEAP, just look up the Bikemaster parts.

The problem in my case is I broke the half of the perch that's part of the master cylinder casting. The cap is still fine. Take a look at the attached parts diagram. The piece under the #34 bubble is what broke and you can't buy it separately from KTM. You have to buy the entire master. It really hasn't been a problem and one of the fabricators where I work insists that he can weld it if I bring it to him. I just haven't had a pressing need to fix it properly yet.

I really dislike that KTM uses the integrated handguard mounts as a necessary part of the lever pivot bolt. Not cool, KTM. Not cool.

IIRC you can find a different year/model that doesn't ship with the integrated guards to find the PN for a normal pivot bolt.

My KTM has the stock handguards which I have since removed. The mounts for them attach to the pivot bolt for the levers and the nut for the pivot bolt is integrated into the plastic mount. They also act as spacers.

I figured some models must come with straight pivot bolts that aren't longer to capture the mounts. I'll have to look into it.

    The black thing.

What size head is the oil check hole plug?

Some fucking dipshit replaced mine with a 13mm or so. Too big to fit even a thin walled socked on there due to clearance with the clutch cover. No access with a wrench unless you pull the motor. Wtf!

Is that the one? The 10mm/Torx head bolt just up and to the right of the one mentioned?

I really wish I had a KTM service manual.
