    Knee Braces & Insurance

Who knows how to work this game? I am putting in a lot of seat time, and as meg says, I'm "Not 18 anymore"... Figured I had another decade before the "old man" lessons started.

I haven't found the gear I want yet, mainly because insurance a search criteria if it can be (I have a "decent" BCBS HRA).

Whats the search criteria? We have a set of the EVS ones that are a few years old but similar the the axis series. I dont even think they have been used.

I've heard of people getting custom CTi and Asterisk braces paid for by their insurance. Dunno how they pulled it off though.

I got my Orthopedic Dr. to write me a prescription for the CTi braces after I found out I tore my MCL on Dec 1st, but I am still trying to get in contact with a sales rep here in FL. Working overnight doesn't help the situation. Will keep you informed if I make any progress soon.

Yep, you just need a 'scrip. Find a doctor that will write you one and find out how much of it your insurance will cover before buying.

Most orthos in the know don't really recommend the braces though. Search through the medical threads on thumpertalk. That guy from texas rebuilds racers all the time. He's vocal about the downsides of braces.

Yeah, what makes you think you need one? If anything, studies show they end up leading to deconditioning of the muscles normally supporting the joint, thus leading to more serious injury down the line.
