Also if you're going the 230f route take a gander at the ttr225/230.

I've had a KDX220R for 3 years. Off- road- Love it's simplicity, reliability, and willingness to please. I put new riders on it frequently, they appreciate the easy clutch, good torque with linear top end (no pipe hit of death), soft suspension, relaxed ergos, rubber mounted bars, wide gearing, easy kickstarting, and a neutral geometry that generally just does what's asked.

It sucks on-road. You're likely to be more 95% trail- 5% road. Low power at higher speed, 2 stroke roughness and noise, shorter range than most dual sports, shake unless you remove the bead locks, weak brakes.

The only danger area is if the 220 has a stock piston, they grenade and take the cases out. Most have been changed to Wiseco by now. Other than that it's the normal swingarm/shock linkage/wheel bearings, chain, sprocket, brakes, forks, etc.

Another vote for the KDX! No bias other than I have one and love it.

Got a CT street plate for my KDX today!

I fired it up last weekend (practicing my kickstarting), noticed it was dripping a little fuel from the carb overflow tube when it was idling. If I revved it, it would squirt out maybe an ounce of fuel from there. Gonna have to pull the carb and give it a going-through before any real rides.

That's a sweet ride. These can be tuned well to have ultra-smooth throttle response, and combined with the relaxed ergos and soft suspension they can be great learning bikes. Make no mistake though, they do have enough power to get into trouble. I still miss mine.

IDK if Matt has, but I have.

The main Project lead for the NVCOG has a clear and unfettered disdain for motorcycle riders and went in to the meeting with a MAJOR chip on his shoulder.

Luckily, the representatives from NETRA, COREC and the Pathfinders MC, as well as a representative from the AMA in DC have taken a serious charge on this and are bypassing the Project lead to make contacts in other areas, specifically state reps and the Army Corps of Engineers. Apparently it really will come down to the ACOE deciding to let it happen or not. They do not seem to want any part of this, so that is a saving grace.

there is a facebook group called Thomaston Dam Riders that posts pretty frequent updates on their progress.

thanks for that update, Kyle. encouraging to hear ACE doesn't seem to want any part of this.

i've been receiving the emails but i'll look up the FB group. i got nervous when i read a rider got mouthy yelling 'BS!' at the first meeting ... not cool.

That was the meeting I attended. The crowd was definitely a bit rough. Its amazing how many people really don't understand how government, or a civilized society for that matter, works. It was an information sharing meeting, not a public hearing, but many people felt they should be allowed to speak even after the very well presented arguments from the presidents/ representatives from the states offroad groups. There will likely be a public hearing at some point, which I plan to attend, but that is likely many months, even years, away.

Well actually, bees don’t have any concept of time so I don’t think it matters how long Jimbob shook the drum.

are you talking about "Screw-U" aka "The Wall" with the massive climb around the ~2:30 mark? that shit is intense just walking it, eats 450 power ... last year it was so muddy they blocked it off completely from the racecourse. you could ski that shit, we watched a guy yard sale down but SAVED HIS BEER
