Motorized Trail Recreation users

Wet trail conditions in the Berkshires will delay the opening of motorized
trails there for about a week. Heavy April snow in the region has only recently
melted so trails are still wet and vulnerable to damage in Beartown State
Forest, October Mt. State Forest, Pittsfield State Forest and Tolland State
Forest. These trails are now scheduled to open on Wednesday, May 9th.

Off highway motorcycle trails in southeastern MA are opening on schedule.

There is no delay for trail opening at F. Gilbert Hills State Forest, Franklin
State Forest, Wrentham State Forest. Opening day is Tuesday, May 1

Freetown State Forest, has historically delayed the opening to accomodate a
Native American event. They will open to motorcycle use Monday, May 7.

Thank you for helping to protect and sustain these trails by delaying your
riding until conditions improve.

And this is how they'll fuck you if you ride a street-plated bike:

"Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Defined – Also known as Off Highway Vehicle (OHV), ORV’s are any motor vehicle designed or modified for use over unimproved terrain if used for recreation or pleasure off a public way and all legally registered motor vehicles when used off a way. Vehicles over 1000 lbs. such as pickup trucks or SUVs are prohibited from all trails at all times."

BTW, the DCR's ORV page has been recently altered to highlight the restrictive elements of their policy.

Wait... so in other words, even if you're street plated you still need to register as an ORV?

No, it means that *if* you ride a street plated bike off-highway, you are then classified as operating an ORV, and fall within any statutes/rules/limitations/penalties, etc.

So here's what you do if encountering a threatening situation -- DO NOT STOP, EVER. Do not ever ride towards a suspected ____, merely turn around and ride the other way. Briskly.

In CT, the po-po, in an atempt the thwart illegal riding, have been known to flip a quad on its side and have a person lie near, waiting to ensnare anyone foolish enough to stop to render aid. I'm guessing it won't be long before the Massholes employ the same tactics.
