    Maintenance intervals

Finally got an hour meter hooked up to the bike since we're riding more and I have 2 bikes to maintain. What hours do you guys usually do all the maintenance at? And what do I gotta do. I know I have to do oil change, check valves, clean/replace air filter, chain care, anything else Im missing?

    Re: Maintenance intervals

You change the filter every time or wash it? And we average a bit over an hour of ride time every time we go out, so you change it every 4-5 hours of ride time?

    Re: Maintenance intervals

Change them usually I buy the Maxima pre oiled ones for $9.00. I usually do @ 2 Hours track time (Im at the track for 5 or 6 hours)

You have to look at it before every ride and decide.

You are so slow that you can just change the oil and filter at the end of the year. Lube your chain every ride though!

And make sure to DRAIN the oil before you put new oil in.

I know nobody ever does this (myself included), but would you consider going by the clymer, and just stretch it a little?

I feel like most people only do enough to keep the bike running

    What is maintenance?

I fix it when it breaks.

if it flies with me on it, I maintain it like an airplane. Follow schedule, avoid a major fucking calamity. Bike will perform better as well.

Oh, and just wash the damn filter. New one every time is insanity.

    Re: Maintenance intervals

How often should i be doing the top and bottom ends? I have probably 40 hours on the bike, never had to adjust clearance, and it starts up and runs fine.

    Re: Maintenance intervals

Top end after it requires 2 valve adjustments in a short hour interval.

Bottom end... never? See Seth's post above...
