Club formation workshops offered in Massachusetts to help support new trails
    You're Going To Love This!

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is conducting a series of workshops to help off-highway enthusiasts understand the important role clubs play in trails and to answer questions about establishing a club.

This is the first time the AMA is aware of any state agency scheduling such meetings. It signals a real interest in having motorized trail users organized before the state takes further steps toward establishing an OHV trail system. This process began in earnest in 2017 when Scott Morrill, a trails professional well versed in motorized recreation issues, was hired to be the fulltime state OHV coordinator.

The workshop will be held in three parts. There is no charge to attend. The first workshop will cover the basics of club formation, including:

    · Importance of clubs

    · Creating by-laws, articles of incorporation, etc.

    · Setting up board and officer positions, executive committees

    · Creating a nonprofit

The first workshop is being offered via webinar on three dates.

    · Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.

    · Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

    · Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

Registration is required to obtain the link for the webinar.

The second workshops of the series will focus on the differences between nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, details on 501c organizations, financial reporting and fundraising.

The second workshop is being offered live on 2 dates:

    Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m.

    Motorsports International

    444 Washington St.

    Auburn, Mass.

    (508_ 832-3690

    Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m.

    Higgins Powersports

    140 Worcester Road

    Barre, Mass.

    (978) 355-6343

There is no cost to attend the workshop, but space is limited so advanced registration is required. There will be no meals provided. To registration for this event, please go to:

    UP! Outside.
Topics covered at the third workshop include clubs' state and federal taxes, the related forms and when it makes sense to hire a tax professional. Dates for the third workshop are to be announced.
For more information, contact Karen Umphress at UP! Outside by phone at (612) 965-8619 or via email to karen@upoutside.com.

Thank you in advance for attending one or more of these important meetings. Please forward this alert to your friends and ask them to do both, as well.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling. That support will help fight for your rights–on the road, trail and racetrack and in the halls of government.

    Join the AMA at americanmotorcyclist.com.

If you are an AMA member, encourage your friends to join by telling them about the many AMA benefits you appreciate and the role the AMA plays in promoting the motorcycle lifestyle and protecting the future of motorcycling.
