Looking at it all at once makes you realize how close this was to Playgirl Mag or something! That's a lot of hair and neon...

my friend who races vintage MX bikes makes is own gear!

    he's #78

checkered sleeves and some guys (who presumably don't have teeth?) even run the 3/4 helmet!

he's been inviting me to come out and ring a bike out with him...just haven't gotten around to it!

i realize the guy in the pic only has googles on but i used to hate full-face helmets, way too much shit flung into my grill... i wore open-face forever but with a mask attached to goggles. (Oakley) also used to love the Quick-Strap system.

also ran the earlier Oakley mask and earlier Scott mask. i still have a Scott mask in the garage... and a Smith mask, actually.

    This is his fleet!!

The little bike is the one his son raced years ago! Found it 20 years later and restored it!

He tells me the community is the best part... everyone there is really cool...the way he remembered MX as a kid. Nowadays he says it's a pony show

Re: Moto Gear History Part I, II, III

I had a pic of Scott summers holding his xr600 on my phone for years, I don't know if it's still in my library or not. I tried to make it my avatar numerous times but I kept getting a "file too big" type error.

I still have a bunch of 90's Jt stuff in a tote I think that I raced bmx in through the early 90's.
Maybe some vintage Troy Lee stuff too, I can remember pining after those cross pistons for a good long time before xmas finally came.

prob around $3K or so for a minty fresh one, just gotta keep your eyes peeled but places like East Coast Vintage do restos... Bikes For Sale - East Coast Vintage MX

i'm sure there are vintage MX specific forums with classifieds as well. i would recommend that route before purchasing a 'barn find' if you don't want a major project. lots of cool vintage builds and bikes for sale on CafeHusky.com, too. it's not a vintage specific forum but plenty of old skoolers on there restoring and selling bikes.

Fun to play "which one would I take if only one"

Probably the 86 cr250 off the still for sale list or the 87 cr500 if the sold list counts

I tagged you on Facebook, but I want to buy this for no god-damn good reason:

'86 CR250R if you're playing at home, or even if you're alone.

Serious question: what is the vintage racing scene like? Are there just vintage-only classes at NESC and/or NEMX rounds, or are there separate series altogether?
