    Separate events, same tracks.

There was a cool display at the southwick national of a bunch of vintage bikes with some serious pedigree. I think some were replicas and some were the actual works bikes, but they were all cool. I think some older dudes have a traveling museum concept that is set up at all the outdoor nationals. It was around a dozen bikes. I recall Jojo Keller's CR 500 and one of Hannahs MXGP Yamahas

Serious question: what is the vintage racing scene like? Are there just vintage-only classes at NESC and/or NEMX rounds, or are there separate series altogether?
not a member of that group (yet) but thnx for the tag. ~$800 for one complete bike + a "built" parts bike seems pretty good but hard to tell from pic. i notice the following to scope out:

    - i had an '87 and remember the gas tanks seemed kinda thin, mine had a few gashes that almost punctured through. i see tape or something on this one
    - shift lever is hanging down at a weird angle, i would inquire. stripped lever is one thing, stripped shaft another
    - i'd be curious how sprockets look, particularly the front. should be a spring washer and bolt, no weld
    - would like to see rear axle, adjuster blocks, etc. if any of that shit is frozen, e.g. adjustment bolts into swingarm, it can be a bitch
    - fork boot(s) is twisted, no biggie but i would have him remove so you can view seal area and tubes
    - curious what's lurking behind the front disc guard
    - curious if the motor drain bolt is intact
    - tires look shagged or close
    - the rear brake pin seemed to corrode easliy on my '87 and '97. there was a flat-head slot to remove the pin. another bitch to deal with for simple maintenance.
    - when was the last top end? how about any bottom end work?
    - has the silencer been repacked?
    - how's the airboot look? that area can tell a tale
    - any frame damage?

most of this stuff is standard look-see but those are things that popped into my head right off the bat.

great looking bike. i'd love another '87 (i realize this is an '86), always dug the lighter red plastics, black motor, blue seat and light gold rim scheme.

on racing, no clue except what Gary mentioned above. here's a few sites to scope out... snag that thing and go rip Broome-Tioga on the 15th !!

EDIT: my bad, '86 had a rear drum, not disc. i thought they went disc in '86 but it was '87.

yes, the Legends and Heros Tour, super hot vintage iron. i've seen it a few times over the years and always enjoy drooling over the bikes.
