    MX goggle lens color

So I recently acquired two sets of Oakley mx goggles on eBay for my wife and I. Both goggles came with clear lenses, my wife does not mind but I want something with a tint. So many choices on Oakley website.I will be using the goggles primarily on trails and for flat track. now I ask what do you all use? Any suggestions?

Depends how shaded things get. REAL shaded? Yellow. Not very shaded, black tint.

Least that was my logic in skiing when trying to see ruts and such.

I'm kind of looking for a over all tint. I hear good things about blue.

    Re: MX goggle lens color

which model Oakleys? you'll need multiple lenses for different conditions, there isn't really one for overall tint (for me) but if you really only want one other than clear, straight blue is prob your ticket. even slightly tinted gray/bronze can be very dark in the trails some days. i tend to prefer blue mirror for sunny days and clear for anything but.

i'm not in tune with all of Oakleys latest offerings (i do wear Crowbars w/Black Ice Iridium some days) but some of their older iridium lenses were amazing in low light conditions in the woods, like see through shadow shit. worth trying a few to see what you like. the Black Ice mentioned do not compare to the older ones i loved, more gray than blue.

speaking of... i'm going to try Spy Happy Lenses this season. they seem to be close to the old Oakley lenses i loved.

I have the crowbar goggles as well. Only reason I was look for one lens is because it's a pain in the ads to keep switching. It took me awhile to get the clear in and out.

You guys over think a lot of stuff. Buy some goggles, put them on your face, and twist the throttle.

heads up, the tint on the black ice iridium lens is darker than the tinted 100%'s i have... cant wear it on cloudy days in the woods, too dark.

You could be out racing every weekend if you'd bought a real dirtbike.

Clinton, I know, that's why over analyzing them is so pointless.
I will say, using ski goggles when it's cold out alleviates 99.9% of the suckage associated with mx goggles.
Everything else is tinted. Pick one that matches your gear or whatever and brap! Shit, I think all my mx goggles have all the foam between tha face seal and the lens ripped out for air flow-age. All the more reason to not give a fuck about shitty mx goggles, nor buy nice ones to begin with IMO.

    Re: MX goggle lens color

I usually take two pairs riding with me. Ones has a yellowish lense with the iridium coming for low light, the other is a tinted lense with iridium coating for higher light. Got some new 100% for xmas but I've been using cheap Oakley O frames before. You know, in case I decide to try dirt riding again.

My old ass Scotts have blue lense and I rather like it. It works well in a wide variety of conditions.

Thanks Adam. Everything I have seen online has lead me to blue. I did email oakley direct. Will post up what they say.

So Oakley is suggesting the light gray tint. They say it works well in all conditions.

with the prices of some goggles i always wondered why someone would even need one of these

but changing lenses can be such a PITA that its probably just easier to buy 5 or 6 shitty to mediocre goggles with different lenses and just wear whatever ones you need.
i find myself taking my goggles off when riding in the woods. even when its cold i start working and sweating and the goggles come off the second they start fogging.

Changing lenses on the Oakley Airbrake is supposed to be relatively easy to do. Problem with that is initial buy in cost and cost of additional lenses for the Airbrake may price it out of most people desired spending range.

    Re: MX goggle lens color

that's what i do, keep about 4 sets w/lenses and tearoffs in a goggle case so i can swap for conditions. really the only reason to go up in price is for the foam quality/thickness and venting style. i sweat way too much for the thin, cheap, foam. soaked and dripping on the lens in 10min.

no goggles in the woods? scary. you should try some safety glasses instead. but i hear you on fogging. my head gets to 1000 degrees instantly no matter what season it is.

i've read that the venting is terrible, fog instantly for woods or slow riding. i think the lenses have gotten bad reviews as well.

changing lenses on normal goggles just takes patience and practice, it's not that hard. you can manhandle them pretty good but the fingerprints suck afterwards.
