    After 6 long years...

of abuse and spending pretty much nothing on it, looks like I finally have to put some cash into the Raptor 700.
I can no longer say it has been 100% trouble free for me...
The original 6 year old battery is showing signs of death, though it still starts..
The original chain and sprockets are toast..
The original clutch is completly shot...really?
And after removing the front wheels for a brake squeak...it needs front brake pads..
Oh, and it needs 4 new shoes..

    To fix or replace?

I didn't think you kept any Yamaha for more than 2-3 years.

Well it sounds like you do not excel at routine care and maintenance so perhaps new until your voice drops.

There's been a few, this is one of them. 2 reasons, it's been rock solid reliable and Yamaha has not updated anything major as of yet.

Keeping it and replacing the parts. Finally a smart choice when it comes to toys

    Re: After 6 long years...

So the work has started! I ordered the new tires 2 days ago and they showed up today
It was a bit of a pain in the ass and took about 2 hours to swap out 4 tires. The NoMar would not even touch the beads, I even bent the bar a bit trying. I had to use an outrigger on the Kubota to break the beads, then spooned off the old ones and spooned on the new ones.

I'm hoping to order the clutch tomorrow, going OE Yamaha only because it has lasted this long. Once the bank account recovers from the tires and clutch, I'll move onto the chain and sprockets.

I went with the OE YFZ450R tires, some like them, some don't. The fronts are GREAT for ice studding is one reason, but the biggest is they are a stiffer MX tire that happen to work great in trails and hold up good against rocks and punctures.

The funny thing is, it really only takes 10 minutes to wash and dry it after each ride..just a habbit I got into at an early age

    Re: After 6 long years...

Ordered the OE Yamaha clutch today Other than the sidecover gasket, all parts are the same as a YZ450F. Good information to know.

I havn't decided on the chain and sprockets yet and if I'll change the final drive ratio or not. I'll try and decide before I go to the dealer to pick up the clutch so I can order it then
