    Re: NETRA Spring Challenge

It was a really difficult race. Probably the hardest I've ever done. I was on my face more times than I can count, and I ended up 9 of 12 (who finished) in my class. 54 of 132 (who finished) overall. Chip pulled the holeshot again, but he biffed it hard and was unable to finish the race due to bike issues. Bummer for him, he was moving really good.

Bill (YKnot) did really well. Joel came out to spectate, it was good hanging with him.

Simcock's gonna be a cakewalk compared to today. Can't wait till Sunday!

Where the fuck is chip practicing these wholeshots? Sucks to hear he didn't finish. Nice job to the finishers! Is simcock really next weekend? I can probably make that one.

DNF like a boss. It was a good lesson on being patient. Crashed out of a sizable lead.

Definitely a rough go yesterday, glad to finish and sore as hell. Much improved from the first time but not a contender...for anything. Last lap was the longest of my life. They need to pave that place, makes me appreciate the smoothness of Loudon, LOL.

Cool video. That mud hole at about the 50 second mark is insane.

Seems like a lot of 2 strokes, is that what the majority of woods riders use now?

Joined NETRA today. Got the right bike for hare scramble. Ready to race. KTM 200 xc-w. All I need is a hydro pack for fluid and I am ready. I done a lot of reading and it seems the best advice is just like Chipper said. Be patient and finish the race.

    Re: NETRA Spring Challenge

Hydrate the night before, some sort of potassium and a few aspirin right before the race. Coconut water is easy for the potassium. I like a mix of electrolyte and water in my hydration pack. I used to do gatorade, but there are these little NUUN electrolyte tabs that work without the stickiness. Eat before the race, but, try not to eat too much. I like a few cliffs bars or something like that.

As far as riding, try to stand as much as possible before you can't stand anymore. Avoid riding directly in another racers tracks. If they go down you will likely go down to miss them. If there are any stoppers like mud pits or deep water crossings, where everyone is stuck, slow down a little before and find an open path, crack the throttle and lean back. Charging in will likely get you caught up behind someone that's already stuck.

Don't worry at all about the start for your first few races. It's easy to expend all your energy in the 1st 15 mins of a 2hr race.

Thanks. All good tips. I think at the gym I am going to do the spinning classes. That helped me before. I did learn lots at LRRS too. Race your own race.

    Re: NETRA Spring Challenge

I hate to admit that I know this, but the insanity, crossfitish, strength/ aerobic classes are probably the closest to dirt racing.

    Re: NETRA Spring Challenge

Bringing a 22 yo young guy with me and he is gonna race my spare bike. Watched videos and that track seems fast and flowing without rocks and mud pits. Got the right hydration pack. My plan? Don't get injured and finish. Keep it fun and make some new friends.

    Re: NETRA Spring Challenge

Sounds like a plan for success. Let us know how you make out.
Expect to suffer. If you expect pain you might be pleasantly surprised. If you think you're gonna breeze around like its nhms you're in for a really rude awakening.

Do you think I should get a Enduro Engineering tall seat soft version ??? About 106 bucks to my door. And I find it hard to get on the bike already. What do you think?
