First Offroad Bike

Looking for ideas for a first offroad bike, looking for something to ride on trails and maybe on some mx tracks at some point. Was thinking of a mid 2000's 250 but have no idea really, probably ridden offroad twice in my life. Recommendations welcome, thinking around $2000

I've been looking around quite a bit as well. Best bet is keep an eye out here, nedb, and Craigslist. If you're looking in the 2k range, you have a lot more opportunities to buy. Good luck!

250 two stokes can be a little wild. They may make learning and riding less fun for you compared to something else. Personally I have a real soft spot for ktm 200 exc/ xcw. Other bikes like the KDX are more trail friendly as well. If you find something specific you like post it up.

Just got myself a 2004 XR250R for 2K. Hardly used still had original tires. Great little trail bike and very simple bullet proof. Air cooled, kick start, and fairly light.

Busa with mx tires!!!!!! Seriously though I 2nd the kdx great trails bikes, nothing beats the smell of premix and they are a lot more forgiving when you start getting tired. Hell I'd love to pick one up in the near future, if my bank account can ever support it

just picked one up myself, they're a blast!

finding one though can be a challenge in and of itself.

You mentioned easy to maintain...a crf250r isn't one of them. If the motor pops you could be looking at almost $2k just to rebuild the motor.

that's crazy talk...

and a kx500 is easy to maintain...ride it once, poop your pants, park it. Bike retains low hours.

Easy maintenance...again look at the XR250R or for more power, the XR400R. Change the oil, clean the air filter and check the valves, takes like 15 minutes. Super simple.
