First Look: KTM Freeride 350 | KTM unveils an exciting new model

By: Chris Denison | Thursday, October 20, 2011

It has come to our attention that KTM is in the process of producing something awesome—really, really awesome. According to inside sources, at next month’s EICMA Motorcycle Fair KTM will be presenting the Freeride 350. This all-new model appears to be a featherweight enduro bike that will be aimed at conquering any off-road terrain imaginable. At a claimed 218 lbs, the 350cc four-stroke powerplant is said to boast 24 horsepower delivered via fuel injection and a slim, noise-reducing double pipe exhaust system. Of course, one of the biggest surprises is the composite aluminum frame design that is like nothing else we’ve ever seen from KTM.

Stay tuned to www.dirtrider.com for more on this epic new model. No word yet on whether or not it will be available in the states, but we’ve heard whispers of a Spring 2012 release. We will definitely keep you posted as we learn more!

Not sure of the draw. Yeah, 350 4 stroke that is pretty light, but is 218 really that great to call it "really really awesome"?

Hell, my 125 weighs nearly 30 lbs less....

    Re: KTM Freeride 350?

yeah, some are saying it's being touted as a 'play bike' rather than full enduro (?) confusing.

weight wise, my Husky 125 is marketed as 216lbs owners have weighed theirs, in full enduro trim, at 208lbs. not bad. it sure doesnt feel heavy, i know that. feels lighter than my 250F but they weigh about the same.

now my Honda CR125, that thing was a feather.

i'm curious what Squirrels 350 weighs... havent looked it up yet...

For a 4-stroke enduro bike, yes..218 is Awesome. Will it weigh that much if/when the real deal comes out? Probably not!

Make it street legal and make sure I can put an oversized tank on it, and I would consider it.

If you get one, can I borrow it when the temps get below 50 and you winterize it?

I think the ktm 350 (sx) weight just a few lbs under what the 450s weigh.

Correct 8lbs or something, Its got a battery a starter Fi ect. Riding it feels no heavier then the 250F I rode before this, its engineered well It steers and stops better then the 2 250s I had and has a ton of power.

^ the motor is rad, it feels sorta like my 2smoke 250 with top-end that keeps going further. I talked to another guy this weekend that said the same thing as well.

I keep seeing that it is either already street legal, or it will be a factory option

    Re: KTM Freeride 350?

just got the Nov '11 issue of Transworld Motocross in the mail now. has a 'giant buyers guide special' in it. check out these claimed dry weights. some interesting ones based on bikes we were talking about today. i know, big mag + mfg claimed doesn't mean much but its a ballpark.

2012 motocross lineup in LBS (not typing all of them)...

    KTM 125SX - 201.9
Husky CR125 - 202.8 (strange, this is basically my bike without a light or 18" rear)
    Yamaha YZ125 - 227 (woah! misprint?)
    KTM 150SX - 201.9

    Yamaha YZ250 - 208
    KTM 250SX - 214

    Husky TC250 - 220.5
    KTM 250SX-F - 221.6
    Yamaha YZ250F - 224.8
    Kawi KX250F - 233.8

    KTM 350SX-F - 230.2
    KTM 450SX-F - 236.8

so yeah, a claimed 218lbs for the KTM 350 'freeride' enduro would be a step forward for that motor/platform.

Yamaha weight claims are wet...full tank of fuel + all fluids...which is how you'd be riding it anyways. Last I knew, they no longer gave dry weight numbers
I know KTM weight claims are dry, no fuel or fluids at all. The claimed weight of my 200 XCW is 208 lbs dry according to the manual

My WR was supposed to be high 190lbs... and you all know how old it is, the frame was hewn from granite by a blind Japanese man with his teeth...

    Re: KTM Freeride 350?

right, i never understood the need for discrepancies in weight and wet is of course the one that 'matters'... so stupid that it's still a game.

we can probably ignore all the 'dries' posted above. Yamaha-Motor.com lists the 2012 YZ125 at 208lbs WET. hahaa.

either way, development of that new 350 will be interesting to follow.

Yeah...but then I have annual inspections in Mass. If I can pass those, I'd be up for doing that.

As for this weekend... I think the group is heading to Pachaug... weather permitting, of course.

But I definitely want to get out to your place soon. Fortunately, we're having the problem of too many places / too little time.

I don't understand it either, and it's exactly that..a game!

I just checked my manuals to make sure I read it right in the past, the Yamaha manuals say "wet weight (full tank of fuel)"
KTM manual says " about 209 lbs (no fuel)"

My XCW holds 2.98 gallons of fuel..so add 24lbs to that

It's simple and inexpensive parts that need to be added for inspection.

the more i look at that pic, the more questions i have. the wheels look HUGE so that must mean the frame is tiny. the rads (or rad) looks tiny too.

    but 350cc, 24hp, 218lbs., weirdo frame... what the it's like a new-skool Reflex.

I did a little research and it appears that KTM is making it street legal from the factory? But... it also appears to only really be about 15 lbs lighter than my 450?

We'll see... right now I'm loving my 450exc so no reason to switch it up.

As for Pachaug, I think we were talking about Saturday. I'll let you know if we firm it up... it's been too long since we've been off road together.
