    Pics From Sunday's Ride...

Thanks to the Patriots game time getting moved back, was able to do some exploring around our property Sunday afternoon...

First pic is an old granite bridge that's partially washed away. It covers the brook that runs through our property. The bridge itself isn't on our property, but that brook runs through it - probably about 500' downstream...

Second & third pics ARE on our property. I'd guess it runs about 300' through our lot. You can't see all that well in the third pic, but it looks like at one time someone tried to create a small damn. As a result, there's a coupla deep little pools and just beyond that, a small island has formed...

    Pics From Sunday's Ride...

    Just some random shots...

First one is a trail that was built around a beaver pond. It's really remarkable how those little fuckers work. There's actually a series of three dams along this otherwise small stream, creating three small beaver dams...

Second one is very typical of what I've been finding out there. Trails EVERYWHERE - private skidding roads, old class VI roads, old stage roads, some privately cut trails. The whole day was total exploration. Half the time, we couldn't make up our minds which way to go...

Pic 3 is just a funky old horse-drawn 'tractor'. It's hard to tell by the pic, but it was in pretty decent shape. Note the steel wheels & treads. The earth tiller and the drag harrow run off an axle-mounted sprocket and were actuated by levers up front. The chains that drove everything were actually chain-link type chains. Pretty neat...

And the fourth one is what we found A LOT of. We literally spent most of the day just taking different trails/discontinued roads, old stage roads, and privately owned skidding trails...

Just some random Raptor shots. The brandy-new one is my brother inlaw's. Just picked it up Saturday. Now *I* gotta get a brandy-new one! No, seriously...

I'm told it gets stocked every 2-3 years...

EDIT: I'm guessing you're talking about the brook, not the little stream that feeds the beaver ponds...

Get those beavers out however you can or you'll have ten acres of water in no time. I don't think it's "legal" to kill em though...

Looks like a beautiful piece of land, Jay.

That antique horse-drawn thing in a an old hay "baler" - they didn't actually bale the hay, but picked it up so it could be rolled into sheafs and loaded into a hay loft. Its probably worth money if its not too rotten.

The only pics of *MY* land are the 2 of the brook (not the granite bridge)...

The beaver ponds are at the bottom of the opposite side of the ridge, no where near me. I mean, I'll kill 'em if you want. But they don't really affect me much...

Haybailer, eh? You sure? I was thinkin' of asking the property owner if I could remove that. There's actually some wood floorboards & sides in tact...

Not 100%, but that is what it looks like. On the rear axle is a big old gear, and there is a chain that seems to rotate up like it picking up the hay after it has been mowed. That old horse-drawn stuff seems to be appreciating in value, and some people are re-doing it and using mules/horses to draw hay since they dont require ever-pricier diesel fuel.

looks like the water level in the brook is up a little from a couple weeks ago

btw, if you follow that brook downstream, it turns into the river behind my house

Sell the old POS to a flat lander to put in his front yard.

I'm guessing it runs across Hornetown Rd, hooks behind your house and empties into Mad River?

Those pics were taken more towards the middle of the property where we didn't really walk. It was flowing a tad faster, but not all that much...

Where YOU didn't walk, Cheryl & I walked up the brook then diagonal back to the stone wall where you were walking

I think your brook IS the Mad River or at least the largest tributary to the Mad River, Mad River crosses Hornetown Road and comes out of the little pond that is at the intersection of Libby Road & Ten Rod Road that your brook flows into

Best I can tell it's a tributary. I haven't walked it's entirety, just going by what topo's I can dig up. Looks like it surfaces somewhere on Prospect Mt, and flows to the Mad River. Can't seem to find a name for it though. Maybe Stonner Brook?
