Well, I pulled the trigger tonight....

Picked up a virtually new 2004 Honda CR250R.

I'm nervously excited...I wasn't really leaning towards a 2stroke but at the same time curiosity killed the cat I suppose. The guy bought it new and barely ever had time to take it out, said it probably only has about 30 hours on it and it shows, there's barely any sign of wear.

I also got him to throw in a Troy Lee Designs helmet, scott goggles, thor pants/shirt, and a new set of unmounted tires.

Took it all home for $2500. I'm a little curious if it'll be the bike "for me"... its my first dirt bike, and it'll be an interesting one. I figure worst case scenario I can sell it and get my money back.

    But, I'm pumped

lol thats why I'm nervously excited.... I dunno. I half feel like an idiot for pulling the trigger so quickly, half excited for a new dirty toy.

You could sell it and go buy nazo's.

I'll be out in the dirt every weekend I'm not at the track, and probably after work a lot of weekdays if I can duck out early. See you there.

For sure, you'll have to show me around.... if you wouldn't mind me trying to keep up haha. The place we're moving into next week is only about 10mins from clough state park too.

Sounds like a great deal! I don't think the R1 analogy is right. The 250 motors are very flat. They can be ridden really fast, but that's partly because the motors are so easy to use.

EDIT: scratch that, I forgot you got a 2 stroke already. Brain isn't working yet. Yeah, that's a lotta bike, but you can tame it down with a flywheel weight if needed.

Nice bike. My cousin has the same bike and you should be fine on it. Doing trails or track?

And no...this is the r1 in the dirt world...

I just can't justify it anymore... so I'm probably taking a year off. Might race on a borrowed 07 R6 thats been offered to me a couple times though.

Yea its a lot of bike but like I said I figure I'll ride it a few times and if I decide its not what I'm looking for I'm sure I can sell it and get my money back to put towards a 4stroker.

I'm sure I'll be doing trails, the track interests me a lot more though...so both I'm sure.

Re: Well, I pulled the trigger tonight....

Sweet, congrats on the new ride.

I might be alone in this, but I find the 2 stroke 250s easier to ride than the 2 stroke 125s. The 125s are kind of like a 600cc sport bike, they need to be up in the revs (powerband) to make any power at all. Cluctch-slipping is mandatory. I love my 125, don't get me wrong, but it's work to ride. Every once in a while I jump on one of 6 fingers's 250s (usually a 2002 CR250R) and find it a lot easier to ride. I can get through sections and ride around on torque rather than having to be in powerband all the time. Clutch slipping is almost eliminated. Granted when you do get into powerband it's a lot more powerful, but at least you can reserve that for when you really want it.

Anyway, cool bike. If you ride Clough a lot you'll probably see 6 & I out there. I'll let you take a spin on the 125 so you can feel the difference.

Re: Well, I pulled the trigger tonight....

congrats! man, lotta new dirty bikes popping up this season. Crow Hill is a great track to learn the ropes on once you're comfortable on the bike. sounds like you'll be pretty close distance wise.

+1 to the fly wheel weight. i threw a 13oz on my CR250 and it rounded it out nicely. chugged in the woods, still revved nice on the track.

nono, the 250 comparison is much better to R1 on the street...the 500 on a track is MUCH worse

Congrats on the bike, I've been toying with selling my kx250 but it would probably be replaced with a new 2stroke.

nice purchase. you'll want to pick up plenty of new underwear, once you find the powerband, you'll know.

Re: Well, I pulled the trigger tonight....

I'd agree that the 125s are harder to ride than the 250s, though I've never ridden a 250 2t on the track. I do think the 125 is a handful to learn the ropes on. It really requires that you carry big speed in order to clear obstacles whereas the bigger bikes seem to be able to point and squirt quite a bit easier. The 125 is always loose as well, so that adds to the challenge.

Anyway, Ryan, riding MX trackdays is a great cheap replacement for roadracing. It has me more than satisfied. I like woods too, but I rarely get out there anymore. I guess I have a track oriented brain.

Re: Well, I pulled the trigger tonight....

For two strokes the 250 is an easier start than a 125 especially on the trails. You don't have to wind it out to get enough power to pop up hills or over obsticles.

Nice pick Ryan. You'll be allllriiiight

I started dirt on a 250 2smk and have moved into the world of "Magic Buttons" (a 450x with E-start)
the power is as addicting as that of a 1K cc street ....just be judicious and work your way into the tough stuff .... just like when you learned street riding / racing
