A diff lock can be just as much of a hinder in snow if not more. Locking diffs tend to gyro you sideways if you're not careful, burying your ass even deeper...

My friend has an 01' 500 cat 4x4 that he is looking to sell . It's the same as the one I sold to Awesome. Along with a 250 Honda three wheeler. He bought a side by side and doesn't use the quad any more. I think he want $2000.00 for it. I'll post a picture in a few.

That is a good price for that machine, IMO. I am looking to buy as "New" as possible, though, and you look to be fairly far away from me...
Who knows, though. I have a feeling that ATV's are a lot like Jet Ski's - They are only fun if you have 2! I may be shopping for another one if my wife likes getting out in the woods. Right now, the plan is that she will follow me on my KDX200 - but I do not believe that arrangement is going to work out, for *me*....

    Re: Quad shopping?

Wow! Were you hurt? Like you, I have been riding dirt bikes pretty much forever, and I can get around OK on one. I owned a 2000 Grizzly 600 for a month or so, and did almost the same thing you did in this clip - I found a spot where two slabs of ice had come together and pushed up to form a peak. I jumped it, and came down, from not very high, and the quad just pitched sideways in a slide, and it tipped over. I was alarmed, but unhurt.
What is your opinion of the Polaris 700?....
Last week I repaired a small 220 Bayou for a friend. I took it for a short ride, and was immediately reminded that they just do not fit well on some dirt bike trails. I got stuck 3 times in 10 minutes.
Anyway, I do not want my wife to get hurt. I am a bit nervous about that.

Yeah... but apparently so is everyone else cuz I'm still at the back!

    Just kidding...

I've been having a blast this fall with getting back on the dirt bike. It was a nice way to wrap up the riding season - which was all trackdays.

    Re: Quad shopping?

Stoneman - Sorry this thread has gotten so long, but I am definately comitted to buying very soon. I am trying to go see the BF this Friday, and I have a couple of other inquiries out on some CL ads. I will have one soon! I value your opinion, and I know very little about these machines. So, I am trying to gather up as much information as I can so that I can make a wise, informed decision. These things cost a bit more than I had originally thought...

    Re: Quad shopping?

...So I found a Grizzly 660 on CL, and I e-mail an inquiry,...and this is what I got:
    "Hello,

This 2008 Yamaha YFM 660 Grizzly with 2170 miles, has no leaks or drips. This quad has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. I am the second owner of this quad. I bought it when I was serving in Fort Lauderdale and is slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of encumbrances and liens.
I have dropped my price to $2800 since I need to sell it before December 19,when I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your; FULL NAME and SHIPPING ADDRESS & PHONE NUMBER to open a case with eBay's Buyer Protection Program and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 7 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

Hope to hear from you soon,
    Corporal Anne Evans"

Really???!! ... This has *SCAM* written all over it.

Yeah, typical. Besides, I don't think the Grizz was a 660 in '08...

The place up by me has a '07 'Cat 400 manual for around $2K w/ winch - some chick owned it, blah-blah-blah. Not sure what color, but it's the same year & model as mine...

    Re: Quad shopping?

Greg, you going to plow at all with your new toy?

I just ordered up a little winch/mount for mine yesterday. $160 shipped for a little Superwinch 2k lb and mount to lift the plow, or $130 for a handle to lift the plow manually. Seemed like a no brainer.

Next week is ordering plow time......Moose, Warn, Cycle Country, Swisher, Tusk? ARG

    Re: Quad shopping?

I am not planning on plowing with it, right now. My driveway is short and straight, and I feel that the snowblower does a neater job. If the ATV I end up with comes with a plow, I would be inclined to use it, though, as we live at the top of a fairly steep hill that my wife, daughter, and I get stuck on every once in a while. It is pretty much the last road in this town to be plowed, and I have actually run my snowblower up and down it in the middle of the night to allow my wife to make it home (she works nights sometimes). The ATV would be great for this! I am pretty sure that the State Police officer across the street would turn a blind eye, as his wife struggles with this hill as well.

08 I believe was the first year and they added EPS then too.

    Re: Quad shopping?

Stoneman, seeing as this machine will be primarily for my wife, I pretty much have limited myself to shopping for a full automatic. I am even a bit learly of the Honda ES machines.
I am looking for as "new" a machine as I can find - 350cc and up, with the features I mentioned earlier. As far as price range goes, RC51FMT's Brute Force is pretty much right at the upper end of what I would like to spend....but I have cash! I do not intend to finance anything. I have not been to any dealerships yet, to see what kind of deals exist right now on new machines... If I bought new, I might be inclined to finance, if the rate was attractive. I have looked at every manufacturers website, and rates go from 1.99 (Honda & Suz) to 13.95 (Can-Am). Kaw, Pol, and AC (2010 machines) are at 3.99. AC 2011 machines are at 5.9. There are other details, such as cash back, free accessories, and extended warranties that vary by manufacturer.

Nault's in Manch is offering free plow set-ups with a purchase of certain ATV's. Maybe worth looking at...

So it's safe to say you're looking at the (used) $4000-5000 range? You can get a lot of machine for that kinda money...
