    Post Mortem

Well, The bad news on my motor is: A bearing on the drum stopper arm in my gearbox failed. The balls went flying around and took out a tooth on the primary gear on the crank. Apparently this was a weak part from the factory as its been updated.

Sooo, new crank and bearings plus gear box parts are over 500 bucks... Ouch. I'm sure this is foolish, but I'm rebuilding it and should be ready for Sunday.

Putting the money into a new bike would make more sense, but that would cost me even more.

    Bummer man -
BUT, that bike fits you like a glove. $500 is a sneeze at what you used to spend roadracing, well maybe not a sneeze on your GP bike, but...
Fix her up and be happy again.
Following you in to lunch yesterday, I overheard a father speaking to his son saying "my favorite bike to watch out there is the KTM 728". So there!

Lol, well, yeah, the bike suits me and I'm really close to having the suspension dialed. Funny that anyone would like to watch me ride MX. I still feel like I'm flailing at times. Although when I get it right, I can do seamless drifts into and out of corners. That feels pretty good.

Curious what kinda bike this is.

I ask because my roomie's thumper KX250 just ate a transmission due to some pin that's pressed into the case which broke off and took some of the casting on the engine case with it.

missed this thread yesterday... OUCH! but i agree with Justin, you've put too much time and effort into dialing it in to ditch it.

damn! Its a tough position for sure, because either way you have to spend money. I'd agree putting it into the bike is worth it, since its either that or you buy a new one and have an old broken bike sitting there that you cant get 900 bucks for.

    Re: Post Mortem

Yeah, that was my reasoning. Plus, I don't have the cake fr a NEW bike, so anything I bought might need a similar maintenance investment in a short period of time. This should give me another 2-3 seasons, and then I'll be ready for something different.

Heartbreaker: The primary gear is backordered. I'm not gonna make it sunday unless I can borrow a bike.

    Sunday is the Southwick school.

I'm not even going to guess at how close you two might be in weight.

I weigh 135ish. Clayton, your 125 would be perfect if you thinking of offering...

I found a primary gear, but it's llikely going to arrive too late to have it built for Sunday.

I was going to offer, but here is the downside:

She is "setup" for woods. PK revalved/resprung her for woods with a little MX mixed in. I found it MUCH better on the track and was able to hit the doubles without issue (only place I actually go fast at Crow Hill). Probably not an issue though!

Other downsides? It's in Royalston and I'll be riding it Saturday hopefully. If you would like, you can meet me at Crow Hill and we can share all day Saturday so you can get used to her before Sunday. I won't be in the fast group anyways, you will. Then I drive home with an empty truck, you bring the ugly white bomber with you.

    Sound good?

(in exchange for borrowing of said bike, you agree to purge all of your fast unto me, I have a definciency lately and need a transfusion to replace the slow that has overcome my fast)

    Re: Post Mortem

This might work. I have a transportation issue that I need to check into (wife may need truck on sat). I'll be in touch. Thanks for the offer(s), and as for the fast part, I can't make any promises... it's a fickle mistress.

I'll bring your bike back to you mon or tues after school.

I'm cool with it. May as well get ridden. I'm not riding it much, that's for sure.

I'll fire it up tomorrow night and make sure she's ready to roll.

Further delays. The plastic gear for the waterpump was also damaged. Didn't get discovered until it was all going back together. Should have it today. This is getting seriously last minute...
