    Recommended Yamaha Engine Builder

Seeing as I have not been able to get any of the things I was planning on doing to my dirtbike done this winter figured I'd ask and see what people recommend.

Looking to get the motor of my '03 YZ450F torn down and gone through/rebuilt. It has been many many hours since it has been done and I figure it is better than fixing a grenaded motor mid season.

Who is the go to guy/girl/shop for having a Yamaha dirtbike motor torn down and rebuilt?

    Thanks

    Joel

I am not opposed to shipping the motor someplace if the quality of work and price are right. Local to MA, southern NH, VT or ME, northern CT or RI would be ideal though.

Pete's cycle and Sled has done some good work for friends of mine. He's a small shop with low overhead and he races MX.

I liked the 2-stroke work done on the RM125 by Eric Gorr/Forward motion - and it seems like they have expanded and provide more offerings

I also used Adan at out-of-control racing and he was pretty good

Reuben at 35 Motorsports in Illinois has done great suspension work for me. He does motor work too including MW engine builds. I'm sure he could do nice work for your motor.

I have had some doubts about Gorr after how fussy your RM125 was. Did you ever figure out if the 125 ran like crap off the bottom and wouldn't idle was a bad carb or a bad port job?

    Re: Recommended Yamaha Engine Builder

Gorr did the porting on my WR also. Mine ran like crap still because the carb was worn out. With a good carb on it it's mint. That said, I dunno if Gorr is the primary man in that outfit or not anymore. It looks like Millennium bought them, so I'm not sure how much of the work is Millennium vs Gorr?

I have a good guy Joel. His name is TJ Fahey. He has been building race motors and bikes for a long time and used to work for Yamaha. He has his own shop now in Somers, CT. (North Central). His number is (860) 775-9985. He helped me to build my R6 and also built Bill Blythe's EX650 that he raced at Isle of Man.

@ Kurlon- I believe he does some work...I called about the yz and some other dude does the crank rebuild while Eric does the porting

@ TLS - were you upgrading too?

Port job was fantastic...more wild on the pipe than any 2 stroke I ever rode...borderline terrifying. made a stock 125 seem boring...heck I am more comfortable going WOT on a stock '00 yz250 over that ported 144 monster

The crappy run from the bottom end was because a set screw part of the exhaust valve assembley had fallen out.

sposta luk sumthin like dis on da left:

The exhaust valve was stuck open the whole time! With that up in the cylinder there wasn't enough vacuum to get the bike to idle.Once I swapped parts from a donor bike, it idled all day...

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Smutty, think I might know TJ in a roundabout way. Might just have to give him a shout.

Bhavesh, just a stock reliable rebuild, nothing more than that is necessary.

I was under the impression that PBR Race Engines were Honda specialists. Knowing now that they may be open to working on another manufacturer, I may have to enlist their assistance.
