Paul, I'm a little disappointed we have yet to see pictures of this mauled axle.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mildly freaked out by this. I go back and forth between a cheap set of wheels and the stock wheels all the time, and now I'm a little weirded.
I can post up. I'm not sure pics do it any justice though. I would just keep an eye on the spacers for flaking or corrosion. Once it starts getting a little hard to remove the axle, replace them.

Here's the axle and spacer. Both stock. 2 seasons on it.

Also, typeone, it does look like my tire spun. The valve stem tore right out of the tube. That's a first for me. Rimlock was tight.

Re: How to remove frozen axle

It's possible the tire stayed put and the tube moved inside it. I've never torn a stem off but I've gone to change tires where my valve stem is pointing at an angle which means something moved. I've never marked the tire and rim to see if it's the tire. I've debated running a second rim lock but never got around to installing one.

    Ouch!

It sure felt good to insert that axle and have it go all the way in with a smooth action...

I have decided natural is best. Lube plus sand equals cement paste.

Re: How to remove frozen axle

hmm, starting to suffer from this ... found corrosion on axle and spacers before Sun ride, i've never seen that before. rode through a few deep water crossings two rides before. crap. hadn't washed the bike so i know it was from those crossings.

i'll clean up the axle and spacer for now, did it quickly Sat afternoon, but will prob upgrade to that SKF spacer/seal kit this winter.
