    Riding time yet?

I was just thinking in a few weeks from now, I would already be riding outside if it was last year.......

When do you think the tracks will open? We have a SHITLOAD of snow still out there.

    Mid April ?

I'm waiting for an intermediate phase for trails...I have a front studded tire and some bolts to finish a rear tire, and I want to see how well they grip in the snow!

got a spare set of rims...so once it finally all melts, I'll swap the knobbies back on

Crow Hill won't be open for another two months unless something drastic happens.

The few MA state forests that still allow riding probably won't be open until June at this rate!

    Re: Riding time yet?

Couple factors to think about this year vs other years

The big snowbase "could" help with the mud, in a good way. I know from trying to plow a path in the woods behind my house a week ago that there was little, to no frost in the ground. Snow is a great insulator and while temps could be well below freezing, the ground in some areas could even be thawing out from the natural ground heat.
Little to no frost also meens what snow is melting now, would just soak into the ground and be gone.
IMO this snow we have now will have little to no effect on when places open for OHRV use, it'll depend on the amount of spring rains we get this year that will.

Snow also melts very fast once the temps warm up. 2-3 days of warm weather (50+) and a good soaking rain storm could easily melt away 1-2' of snow.

I know you southern peeps got slammed this year. But up here, we're still like, 16" UNDER average to this point. Imagine that shit...

This time last year, NHMS had to haul in snow & snow making equipment for the Snow Bowl. They decided not to do it this year, thinking it'd be another bust. Again, imagine that shit...

The problem with a lot of snow is rather than 'melt', it converts to ice. That 1-2' of snow can quickly become 4-6" of ice. Which would work out good in Center Barnstead, IF you know what I mean...

With an attempt to try and blaze a trail today on the quad, I confirmed that the ground under the snow is not frozen. This is a good sign
