On-road registration good for off-road in MA?

I called the DEP office in Worcester and they said they were pretty sure even though I'm legally on-road, i also need to register off road.

Few years back I had a plated XR250 and was at Franklin, DEP was there doing inspections and was perfectly fine with my bike being street legal but not off-road registered and allowed me to ride.

Anyone know for sure either way?

My understanding is you need both. It's only $40 for 2 years. Better to be safe then sorry IMO for that little money

they *used* to say that a street reg was sufficient

then they realized they could get an additional source of income by requiring an ORV sticker in addition to your street reg (which I'm sure they're justifying it as will help for trail maintenance and keeping trails open) ...they turned into CA...whoopdee do

but ya, for $40, it's worth just gettin' it done

thanks for all the replies, i'll get it done then. its not so much about the $40 as it is about the time to get into worcester.

most guy stick them to the fork tubes. Someone (typeone?) suggested laminating them first and then taping over with clear packing tape, just to make them a bit more durable.

    yup, that's what i do.

the stickers are horrible quality so laminate then ziptie to your upper fork tubes. works great. i no longer do the extra clear tape over the zipties, they're holding up just fine without. if your ties slide, the tape will stop that. when you get a renewal sticker (every 2 years), clean the laminate then stick on. those hold up much better.
