Bumpy: more q's.

I've been thinking about getting a knee brace/guard to replace my standard knee/shin guard. The protection I have isn't up to snuff. It covers the shin alright but it leaves the top of my knee exposed. It's getting replaced whether or not it with a brace type of a different standard guard. I don't have any knee injuries, but my job mean if I'm hurt I don't work. Any suggestions would be great.

sounds good. i'll check on sizing, cant remember but i'm 5'10" and they fit properly. i would do something like $60 shipped (?) if you're interested.

not sure if you're looking for one but i'll also have a Fox Proframe LC chest protector posted for sale. only used a handful of times. pretty much new.

fyi, the bilt version of the pressure suit/off road jacket (aka the Bilt Charger) is on sale for March for $59....I figure for someone like me, that rides a pathetic, once every 2-3 months (closest riding is now 1-1/4 to 4 hours away ), sixty bucks is cheap enough to try out

normally for me:
-chest protectors dangle around me because I'm skinny...
-strap on elbow pads cut off circulation to my forearms and cause arm pump...
-I've never owned shoulder protection...

the reviews say the zipper sucks, mesh rips easily (even when it's own velcro catches it) and it runs 1-2 sizes too small. But because I'm so skinny, the small fit me better than any accessory elbow pad or chest protector I've ever used, and for the 2 or 3 times I use it, I don't care if the mesh rips. The shoulders and elbows are finally sitting where they should be, it has a spine protector, and front/chest guards. I have the day off next Tuesday, so we'll see how it goes!

okay, took it for a ride...and because it's from cyclegear, I was expecting the quality to be absolutely horrendous...ie. - I was expecting regular body movements to cause it to tear, and 1 crash to just shred it apart

and somehow it didn't

I also made the poor decision of hill climbing a rocky trail called "bloody jersey", and somehow shot the XR100R straight into the air, and watched it do a cartwheel backwards as I fell backwards down a steep rocky section praying I didn't stab a stone into my back, and the bike wasn't coming on top of me

and the gear held up...it just has scratches

we'll see if it can handle another round!

Somehow "hill climb" and XR100 just don't sound right together! Glad you survived lol.

never bought anything here but there is a store called Motor Sports Accessories on route 6 near the intersection of route 88 in westport...they carry some dirty gear there...maybe Chipper would know if they are any good

I've been there a bunch of times. That have lots of cheap stuff. I'm sure that's what the average customer asks for. I still go there for my oil and jerseys, pants stuff like that.

maxim_X, i forgot to answer you on the sizing for the Fox guards... they're 'one size fits most' so only one size.

if you're interested at all let me know. i'm flexible on price. just sitting on the shelf.

2 more crashes with the Bilt Charger gear...

and honestly, the gear did it's job pretty well...I landed pretty aggressively on the elbow and shoulder, the armor stayed in place and I don't have any bumps or bruises on those areas

I also somehow dragged on my back on the first get-off, and no scratches there either

not even any tears in the mesh...

the only gash I have is on my waist right above my pant line and on my knee...but MX pants don't do much to help you there anyways

Probably the most common "crash" in the off road/trail riding scenario is at slow/medium speed, hitting a small, smooth tree or branch laying diagonally across the trail with your front tire. The front tire slides along the smooth, slippery wood, and the bike falls to the ground. Depending on speed and body position, I usually hit the ground with my head, and my shoulder, and end up with my leg trapped under the bike. What you fall on makes a big difference as to the outcome, in terms of physical injury. Sticks and rocks can complicate matters.
It seems to happen more on the right side, but I did not save any data from the past 46 years.
