OTG's are the worst. Riding dirties is the ONLY time I wear contacts . OTG's fog like whoa, my glasses would get sweaty and move around a little, and there's really nothing you can do.

i should have been more specific, i dont ride with glasses for my vision, just protection, i wouldnt need goggles that accept inserts or anything, i was just thinking of wearing a pair of more protective glasses like oakleys vs goggles.

Picked her up today! Come hell or high water (or in this case a cheap trailer and 18*) I was gonna get this thing home. The threw the Moose bash guard on already. I also got a chance to try on some O'Neal and Moose boots, both of which my calves were too big for (thanks years of mountainbikes and dh racing!). I'll be heading out this week to grab some boots, helmet and goggles. Enough chit chat, onto the shitty cell phone pics!

Thanks again for all the help guys!

I'll be trying to take care of that on wednesday when I head out for gear. How often do people go out there? I'm pretty new so I don't want to get myself into trouble or slow down a group.

We try to do sunday mornings during spring/summer/fall.
But with kids and work not all of us make it every week.
No worries about slowing the group up. I am always left in the dust but everyone waits at the next branch off the trail

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

Little update. Went out to Motorsports International today after making quite a few phone calls to area shops. They had a good variety of boots and I tried on most of them. Tried some of the Gearne boots which fit well and have the nice hinge on the bottom, but they are out of my tax bracket. Ended up picking up some Fox comp 5 boots. Also, all of their leftover Answer/MSR stuff is 50% off, so grabbed a sweet bike-matching jersey for $17! Still on the hunt for a dirt bike helmet, goggles, and some riding pants (tough to find in size 42?). Friday I'm hoping to change a couple things on the bike, and I'll be sure to add pics.

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

So, attempted to put on my Acerbis hand/lever protection today and ended up getting so frustrated I had to just put everything away.
First off, I truly believe that I'm a pretty mechanical guy, and understand how things work usually just by looking at them. Done my own custom work in the past, years as a bike mechanic, and been doing custom R/C stuff for years.
Enough about me. I opened these things up before the bike even came home, just to fiddle around and see how they're supposed to be mounted.
Basically, I go to put the throttle side on first, as I figure that's more work. I cut the end of the grip off, only to find a plastic end underneath it. I use my trusty razor sharp reamer from my R/C car tool box. Ok, hole is as big as the handlebar opening now. Try a rough fitting and realize that the plastic needs to be trimmed back to the end length of the bar. Some work with a nice fine tooth bone saw, exacto knife, and a dremel and some sand paper, and it looks like it was supposed to be made that way.
Another rough fitting and find that now the inside of the bark buster thingy fits great, but the brake lever hits the plastic.
    God Damnit.
I try using the spacers they come with only to find that those fall into the handlebar, not really a spacer to go in between the handlebar end and the guard.
    Try one spacer...nope.
Try two spacers...nope. Now I'm getting pissed.
I proceed to do the normal guy thing and mumble expletives while I shop around my tool box, basement, and garage, looking for handlebar spacers I've never had, and debating cutting up a pair of bike handlebars only to find those won't work either.
    More pissed.
Whilst looking around for these imaginary spacers I knew weren't there, I cut open two knuckles. Now I'm bleeding and pissed.
Oh, and the wife came home, with groceries. Lots of groceries. Now I'm pissed, bleeding, and carrying as many bags of groceries up the stairs in one run as possible, because I need to go back to looking for cylindrical things to turn down to the right size spacers I need (mind you, I don't own a lathe or anything to cut round stock besides a basic pipe cutter).
Now I'm being told we are going out to dinner and I need to get ready. Awesome.
Anyone know if they make the spacers I'm looking for or have an issue like this?

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

hahaa! hand guards can be tricky. comes down to bar I.D. (not consistent), component sizing (brake/clutch MC, etc) and mount style. i prefer EnduroEngineering or Cycra. not sure how the Acerbis are shaped or mount but if you're getting interference with the plastic or aluminum guard... it might be because the bike has 'street' sized components (?) i ran Cycras on my SXV without issue. my dirty has EEs (big dip in the inner bar mount)

the Cycra triple clamp mounts are great because they're strong and totally removed from all your bar crap on the inside. not sure if that's an option for you though.

most of the time you need to run your levers a hair inboard to clear. shortys solve this but can be pricey sometimes.

need pics. and dont be afraid to BEND the shit out of the aluminum guard if needed.

I never liked the Acerbis for the very reason you are complaining about with your install, they simply fit like shit. As typeone said, don't be afraid to bend them, you will likely have to. And by bending them in the past, I have been able to get the extra clearance so the levers would clear the guard. You may also have to elongate the holes in the plastic deflectors depending how much you have to bend them.

I swung the extra coin for a set of Cycra's for my first KTM back in 04 and spent all of 10 minutes installing them, with a perfect fit. Been buying Cycra ever since.

And some of us are not afraid to bend them unintentionally while riding

I have D-Flex branded guards that came with my KLX. KLX also came with bent handlebars. I swapped out the bars and quickly found out what a pain in the ass these handguards are. Mine required substantial.. uh.. persuasion to go onto the new handlebars.

    So yeah. I hear you.

Re: New to off road, thinking of a wr250r. Any thoughts?

Dinner completed, back at home and just don't see these things working out at all. I really would have to bend them quite a bit to get them to work. So glad I spent $100 on these things. Anyone want a cheap set ? I think I'm gonna try the Cycra's. I'm not crazy about how they look but they will work and I like how they mount real close to the top claps, which will let me run a bar pad.

    These should work, correct?
