    2 stroke question

How hard/labor intensive is it to bust a YZ 250 down to parade rest? I was thinking of powder coating the frame.

    Re: 2 stroke question

As a teenager, I stripped down a YZ490 to have the frame sandblasted & painted. While it was apart, I replaced the bearings, rebuilt the forks and installed fresh plastic and seat cover. Took maybe a week, working on it part-time. Very simple stuff. That was an air cooled bike, so a bit less of a mess.

I was hoping it would just take a Saturday to bust down. Then wait for the powder coaters.

I'd give it a couple hours to strip the frame bare.

Take pictures of the rear suspension before taking it apart - and try to leave sub-assemblies together as much as possible. You can go nuts trying to figure out the oragomi project Yamaha designed.

For some reason I don't think that will take long.

EZ - but you will want to spend extra attention and maybe get some help with the swingarm and headsest bearings. Us lots of lube putting it together again.

    Re: 2 stroke question

If you don't have the shop manual for that bike, and you do have a digital camera,
take pics of the bike in sections as you tear it appart, they would be good reference as it goes back together.

you can get those divided compartment nut bolt trays pretty cheap from wally world Stack-On | Plastic Storage Organizers
, to keep all the fasteners seperated and in a safe spot until you are ready to re install. you can even lable with tape if need be, you would be supprised how bolts all start looking a like when you have a pile of them.

    good luck
