Not enough lube apparently. Just one of those mini can compressors. Gets about 55-60 psi into the tires.

I spray some water/windex mix on em, but maybe it's not soapy enough.

    Re: Setting the bead

Is the valve stem core in the tube when inflating? I always take them out. Allows for more flow quicker in order to seat the bead.

I use a mix of dish soap, denatured alcohol, and water.

At work, we use tire lube that I'm pretty sure is mostly lard...and it's amazing.

    Re: Setting the bead

i do all the above as well, but some tires are just difficult to seat, especially the super stiff sidewall style ... when that occurs, i drop PSI, use a spoon to pry tire away from rim, spray WD in/at/around the offending bead then re-inflate to ~60psi... and let it sit... eventually seats overnight or a few hours.

the older super stiff Motoz w/rim protector were notorious for this.

As Chip said. Straight Windex works great. Back in the day that is all I used. Dish soap also but is nastier (Gets sticky when it drys on your hands). Real tire lube is nice. Tire mounting soap is the tits but spendy and a bit nastier but oh so slippery. I have some for the stubborn stuff.

I have resorted to WD-40 as well.

    Re: Setting the bead

the plus with Windex and dish soap is they dry clean or sticky... no tire slip issues... i have not had the pleasure of lubing with proper rubber lube... and i have chafe to show for it

Liquid soap & water in a spray bottle.. And I've never had problems setting a beed with a tube. Last time 'round I realized I'd lent off my compressor and did it with a bicycle hand pump.

    Re: Setting the bead

    I've got this.

It's like a paste. Similar in consistency to bearing grease. Loosens up when mixed with water.
