    Re: Short Course Tomorrow

Im still planning on being there to help out a bit. I might have a guest with me from out of town. He wants to the check out the scramble. Old Timer although he doesnt seem to frequent these boards much anymore has threatened an appearance after the fact at the pub. Anyone up for Grumpys in Bellingham after the race?

It's on Freetown. Rt24 south to 140 south, exit 8 Chase rd. Turn left, follow the Orange arrows. 2-3 miles from rt 140, small dirt road on right.drive straight across the field. I have a Green Dodge Ram 2500 with a cap an a 20' all white trailer.

I believe there is no size restriction. Ill tell you what. You really want to do this? I am not riding tomorrow. You can ride my bike. YZ 125. You just need to give Kates a call and have him put the bike in the trailer. Ya its a bit last minute but maybe you can convince him to.

Women class allows any bike with a 19" front wheel or bigger. Some good ones for starting are:

    Honda CRF 230
    KTM 105
    Kawasaki KX 100
    Yamaha TTR 125, 225
    Honda CRF 150

Once you learn, you can ride a 250 2 stroke or 250 four stroke. A 125 tends to be a little to soft to pull you out of ruts and up hills, unless you can keep your speed up. Stay away from motocross bikes for the woods, they are too stiff and deflect off every thing. The two most critical features, in order of importance are, you MUST be able to sit on the bike and have your feet flat on the ground AND have your knees bent. Do not under estimate this. Second, electric start will make you life a lot easier because you will tip over and stall the bike about elevendybillion times your first few rides. Kick starting is no big deal, The Button, will save you a ton of energy. Once you tip over/stall a few times, you get tired from picking it up and restarting, then it becomes a self full filling prophecy. The more tired you are, the more mistakes you make, so the more have to start it, that makes you more tired and soon you sound like Yosemite Sam on crack with a hot poker up his ass. But other than that, it's a blast! I can do a new dirt rider class this summer.

So it's more important to give up some power and have feet on the ground w/knees bent? I was thinking of going with a CRF230 but I don't think I'll be able to flat foot it, nevermind knees bent. It sucks being short..

Youre in the same situation as me. I had to lower my bike and I still cant touch. Didnt stop me from riding but it makes things a little more difficult especially through slow stuff. Next time youre at the shop try and sit on mine.

Sounds like a good day....with the exception of the whining of course...
