    Soft Sand Corners

I rode last night at my local track which has quite a few soft sand corners and the track does not has an irrigation systems, so they were really soft. 1 out of 5 times through a corner it felt right but I couldn't figure out what I was doing right to make it work. Just dumb luck as far as I can tell. I am looking for some advice on this since there is no rain in the future and I should have the same conditions on Thursday when I go back.

Body Position- Should I be up right like you would be it a flat corner or should I be leaned in committed to the turn?

    - Should I be sitting on the tank, just behind the tank or more over the rear tire?

Bar Input- Initial input then stay loose or do you need more input though out the turn to keep the front where it needs to be?

Throttle- Pick up the throttle early in the corner to drive though or later to let the front end get pointed where you want it before finishing the turn with the throttle.

    Re: Soft Sand Corners

The corners have about a foot of loose sand in them. When you dump it in them you look like Pig Pen with the dust cloud surrounding you.

That was a helpful article. That at least give a good place to start.

I tried standing but that end up as a pile at the bottom of the burm which is about 4' to 5' tall. Riding the back stretch which is all sand with a double in it I lean back as much as I can to get up enough speed to clear the double.

Like the one at crowhill ? I don't do anything different than any other corner, stick that leg bitch out as far as you can, make a line and open that throttle wide open and puuuullll

The slower you go in sand the harder it is Just make a line and rip thru it. You'll fall time and time again but you'll learn.

I would say you don't want to sit far back. Like mentioned, momentum and speed are key, once you let off or slow down in sand then you are F'd.

seth, I find at the new track i've ridden lately, im coming off the table top with lots of speed, and the nose will bury itself in the sand at the bottom if I dont lean back... I wouldn't think being up on the tank is effective for not burying the nose, OR getting good traction on the rear.

o ya that makes sense to me, I do lean back myself in sand alot. I probably wasn't clear I meant you shouldn't have your butt on the rear of the seat. I usually have my butt up toward the tank but my posture is leaned back.

    Re: Soft Sand Corners

    This is what I do.

I enter the corner standing. That goes for any corner. As soon as I am about to lean the bike, I sit (just behind tank), push the bike to the ground and roll the throttle on all in one motion.

Here is an example of me attempting this. Notice how I said attempting.

Now that I watch that I should've stayed standing further into the corner.
