I rode the zero dual sport bike yesterday! The motor was pretty awesome, and even though the suspension and brakes were severely wanting, the thing handled as if there were no motor in it at all. SO easy to turn. It was very quick and a wheelie machine! The potential for these things is unreal. Higher than combustion motors IMO.

If you look at that on Youtube there are a bunch of haters who don't want to give up the noise!

I don't get it. I think this is the future as population density increases and noise becomes even more of an issue than it is now.

I would give up the sound of the bike in a second if it translated to more riding opportunities.

I don't like the idea that we have to "give up" combustion motors to get riding areas, but certainly adding electrics into the mix can only be a good thing. Especially if they can outperform their combustion counterparts!

If, and only IF I see more riding opportunities will I get excited. With the forces at play currently I don't think you could get more riding areas opened up in some areas even if the bikes inhaled CO2 and exhaled gold pressed platinum Sierra Club membership vouchers.

Anyone know how they grid those things with the "regular" bikes? Like, 125's or 250's with like size engines? It's an electric motor, no cc's to put it in a class. Just wondering. Very cool all the same though.

Until they catch on, I'm guessing you could race them in any class. When somebody starts kicking ass on one, they'll have to figure out how many gigawats equate to 1cc.

I've been toying with the idea of sticking an electric motor in an RS125 chassis for a while. After trying the same bike that Paul mentioned, I'm even more convinced that it could be a fun bike! Just eliminating the shifting would be so worth it!

i would love to have one. it would open up riding out of the garage every day for me. (yard obstacles and access to a trail system from the hood). it's so freekin' quiet out here you can't do anything without someone noticing. haven't taken the woods bike out there in a while, i'd rather load up and head somewhere legal and not worry.

Yes, it has tune-able engine braking. from almost none to 4 stroke type engine braking.

Reminds me of my son's powerwheels. When I hear that electric whine, I get phantom pains in my ankles and lower legs.

I'm all for the quiet and "clean" of these electric bikes. It takes another reason away to close lands to ORVs. But land erosion still exists which has always been the big one anyway. How do these perform with slicks??

I got to try one real quick last fall. It was cool, lots of power from the motor and 20 or so miles range. But, the chassis was like ttr225 size. 3/4 a real bike. I don't know why they do that, a full size bike with good components and a little more range would have me thinking about it as an option atleast. What was at the demo gave me no real interest.

To me, the demo bike showed what is capable... which is the video of the bike and the race car in this thread.

The demo bike is perfectly suited to its intended use - which is a great runabout bike capable of handling anything that will be thrown at it short of serious off roading. That one is going to be used on Block Island, I believe.

I prefer the "electric motor" effect & sound of my KDX200 2T. Down here in CT there are so little riding areas left, that I can't see how an electric motorcycle is going to open anything up as far as riding areas go. They will find a way to tax us & still limit our usage, regardless of power plant.

The video of an electric MX bike did certainly appeal to close racing with similar machines and seems to move along pretty quickly, with a very talented rider onboard...

I can tell you from and RC car standpoint

10 years ago electrics used NIMH batteries and brushed motors. Nitro rigs were much faster. All large scale vehicles were nitro or gas pretty much.

Now, motors are brushless and the batteries are LIPO and nitro has been left in the dust. You can now buy an RC that will do 100 mph right out of the box.

I have a pretty large (13 lb) monster truck that I just upgraded the motor in, the new motor puts out around 5 horse and runs on 25 volts DC and will do 60 pretty easily, the only thing holding it back is literally blowing the tires apart.

I tried one of my 16 volt batteries in my daughters power wheels and it was FAR too much (she is not even 2). I went down to 12 volts and its still MUCH more powerful than with a motorcycle sized lead acid battery.

I really do see a lot of potential for dirtbikes with this!

When people learn they can be FASTER, they will be sold.
