    Space Saving MX stands, $10

Would like to avoid having each bike spaced out by 2-3 ft allowing me to get to one bike at a time. Finally got a slab poured in my garage, looking forward to wheeling out the bike of choice without fighting to squeeze between them.

$10 in supplies, made 3 in about 45 minutes.

The inside dimension of the crate is 12"x12". I cut the inside to 11 7/8" and knew the fillet corners on the crate would be an issue, so while my miter was set to 45, I chamfered the ends to account for that.
    Space Saving MX stands, -wp_000182-jpg

The wheels were 2" casters from Lowes, $3/pair

Milk crate - stork dropped it off

I am most likely going to add a bungee through the crate so I can hook an end to each peg and keep them a little more stable in case "others" are moving the bikes around.

I'm open to ideas for other improvements, I have a few I just layered 12x12 plywood onto a few years back to make up the height i needed, but figured the wheels would do that nicely and give a good benefit.

It's not tricky quality, but it works... It was my primer to building boxes for the house/garage and picking your brain to make them sound good.

    I like. nice new project.

    other improvement

Sawall or BIG hole saw the top and side to be able to drain oil.

OR taller casters to put a baking pan under the stand to catch the oil and just roll everythign out of the way to dump the oil

Cool Idea. I'm being a baby with my new floor and am afraid of oil getting everywhere. I'm lucky enough to have my lift coming back to me soon, but it would be nice to have one stand do it all.

I keep large, flattened cardboard boxes around for dealing with oil. When I'm working on something with the potential for a mess, out comes the cardboard. If you do get some on the concrete, brake cleaner will lift it if you catch it quickly, otherwise Simple Green or Grease Lightning and a little elbow grease will clean it up.

I try not to have any leaky bikes. The wrenching happens on the lift, which is on a rubber mat. I have been working in a gravel pit since we got the new place, I don't want to cover up my pretty floor with cardboard!

I'll be really paranoid for a couple months, as I don't think I can lay down epoxy for 30-60 days due to cure time.

I don't have such a luxury, no lift, and some of my toys are pretty beat due to age or role. Plus, my garage floor was stained before I got it.

    great idea! love the casters...

only improvement i can think of is to reinforce the top. over time the weight of the bike being thrown up there will sag the plastic, then it gets brittle with age and cracks.

That's a luxury right there! Now you can have stress free wrenching. I am afraid I may end up like Trouble with my garage (can you spell OH SEE DEE?).

Good call... I've never gotten the height out of one without wood on top, so I've never had the wear and tear to the plastic itself. Easy enough to add...

If you're gonna put a slab of wood on top then def do some cutting on the top so you can drop a 1 gal milk jug in there for oil.

Re: Space Saving MX stands, $10

I've always wondered how people use the stands that are sold for working on dirtbikes to change their oil through that small hole that is supposedly there for that purpose. Every dirtbike I own changing the oil requires access to more than one drain bolt and the stand just gets in the way. Add in cleaning and/or changing the filters during the oil change and the stand thing would definitely not work on my bikes. I just lean my bike up against the garage wall as close to vertical as I can get it and go from there.

Back on topic. Nice job on the stands I always wind up sliding the milk crate on the floor sideways while stabilizing the bike at the same time, usually with my head. I'm thinking some locking casters on a base like you built would probably make my life a little easier.

    Did you just chris me?

    youuuuuuu ass hole!

It's space saving because without wheels, I end up spacing the bikes so I can shimmy in and get it off the stand... which requires decent spacing (if you know what I mean, and you know what I mean tubby). So with the wheels, they can get packed in side by side and I can just roll out the one of interest.
